Arkansas

Been a revolving door since Gary Blair departed. All because women's AD Bev Lewis wouldn't give him a raise.

Arkansas is a good job for an up and coming coach. There is a lot of talent in the state but lately most of the best have been leaving the state. Whoever gets the job has to be a good recruiter and keep that talent in the state.

I understand one of the guys they are interested in is Neighbors who was just hired this year at the University of Washington when McGuff got the head coaching job at Ohio St.

Didn't I read somewhere that the state of Arkansas has some strange rules about high school players particpation in AAU?

If he get's the job then there's a chance he brings his staff with him and that's bad news for OU relative to recruiting in the Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas areas because of these two very good recruiters:

Former OU video coordinator

Former AAU coach for AOlajuwon, EArriaran and A&CParis

How about SCoale prepare for a major department "re-organization". I think a few need to get walking papers (not necessarily all coaches but at least one) to send a strong message that mediocrity will not be accepted from the HC down the org chart to the student managers. Heck, she might need to request new janitorial staff for the locker room, but a clear message needs to be sent. SCoale needs to hire at least one former player as an assistant (not the video coordinator or radio personality); a player like AOlajuwon or DRobinson that is not that far removed from college days and has some passion and fire that has been to a FF. You can't talk about where you haven't been. Reshuffle the money and make it worth their while!

It is no secret how much I love DRob. But, I would not want her as an assistant right now. I would want her to work for at least one other great college coach before she comes to OU. She needs to see how recruiting is done at other places PLUS, she needs to prove that she can be a dynamic recruiter. Otherwise, we are just HOPING she would be all that. We are not in a position to take chances and as much as I like DRob, it would be a bit risky to hire her as a full time assistant. We need an assistant ready to go right out of the box, not one who needs to be trained.

Norm, keyword here is "like" and not necessarily AO or DR. And if either of those were interested in coaching it would not be a bad idea. It's not like they would be the recruiting coordinator. IN ADDITION to the hiring of a former player that is on FIRAH...hire a few new assistants that have phenomenal X and O skills and another that is a top shelf recruiter. Neither can be intimidated by SCoale. Now the question is, "Will she hire someone that is not beholden to her or intimidated?" I hate to keep beating the dead horse but her staff is more closely related than the Kennedy family. It would be different if it was working. But it's not!

I think we are on the same page but you don't seem to care if we hire someone with experience. I think it is critical they have a proven track record as an assistant known as being a great recruiter.

Same page we are. I don't think that one can "hire a few new assistants that have phenomenal X and O skills and another that is a top shelf recruiter" without them having successful experience.
