Anthem. Sing it the way it is supposed to be sung. I could barely tell what it was. Just sayin but I HATE it when singers do that crap!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know but he should get a night in the NO popo for that lol. Nothing like it when a star steps in and belts it out like they should. Even though she had drug issues, I will never forget wHITNEY hOUSTONS VERSION AT THE sUPER bOWL.

I'm fairly tolerant of people giving the Anthem their own interpretation, but that was just bad.

I didn't see it.

That said, Marvin Gaye's version of the anthem at the NBA all-star game about 30 years ago was one of the best I've heard, and it definitely wasn't traditional (nor was Jimi Hendrix', another iconic rendition).

It's a song that in the right hands can become something truly amazing. Just because a select few can pull it off doesn't mean everyone else should try, though.

I agree, Marvin Gaye's all-star version is probably my favorite one of all time.

Safe to assume you don't go to many OU football games? :D

Time to ditch that tune all together and come up with something modern and relevant.

no, it's time to treat the national anthem with the reverence it deserves and realize that it is a privilege to be chosen to sing it...they are doing you a favor in choosing you, not vice versa.

Sing it. Sing it as written. Sing it out of respect for your country.

I actually think it was sung fairly close to the way it was written. It was the music accompanying the singing that was my issue with it.

as far as im concerned the fray should be charged with something.. it was terrible.. there is no music more beautiful than the original and plain national anthem..

O please. You do know the unofficial "national anthem" was "My Country Tis of Thee" until the "Star Spangled Banner" was brought to prominence by Woodrow Wilson during WW1 to drum up patriotism? The Banner was made the official national anthem only in 1931 by Herbert Hoover in another propaganda attempt to drum up patriotism when he was about to be run out of office for implementing austerity and turning a recession in the great depression. The song was begun being played at the start of sporting events during WWII, again used as propaganda to drum up patriotism.

My Country Tis of Thee is by far the more classy and appropriate national anthem.

While we're at it, the Pledge of allegiance was a marketing ploy to sell flags to schools. So let's not get too worked up about the "reverence" aspect of propaganda and marketing ploys.
