Who woulda thought that Bama would get beat at home by Mizzou???

Mizzou 69

Bama 60

Bama shot 25% from behind the arc, 35% overall.

And WV has lost 5 of their last 6......

An announcer during the KU-KSU game was talking about how the Jayhawks get everyone's best shot, and I imagine they do to an extent, just as OU does in football.

This season, OU's facing a similar challenge. With all the hype Trae's gotten (and earned), every team is looking to shut him down and knock us off. Their game against us might've been the best Bama plays all season.

Yes. To piggy back this, Trowe was saying similar things about this the other day as well. This is especially true on the road, where, not just the team is hyped up but also the fans. He says, “lately we just haven’t been able to match their intensity.” I think this is all spot on. There is hope though, because in the non-con, we showed we are capable of doing it. On Tuesday night, we came out flat and allowed BU to stick around. When they took the lead I was like oh crap, but our guys rose up and got some stops... can we do this on the road? It’s tough being the hunted...

Btw this is also what makes what KU has done so incredible... Say what you want about the refs, home court and all that... but they know how to win with a target on their back.

Bama's 20 percent 3-point shooters were 6 of 8 last Saturday.

That was the best Bama could play, give them credit.

No question Trae's and OU's success this season begets the "A" game from everyone we play. They see it as an opportunity to put a big feather on their cap. Definitely forces the Sooners to step up and beat the competition like KU basketball and OU football does every game every year. Much tougher to play with a target on your back every time out.

Odd logic, if you’re suggesting you expected it based on team W-L records.

This program historically has had great athletes and played similarly. They aren’t ranked and have some bad losses. They have almost always played down to their competition. Their record is indicative of who they are in spite of how they played against us.

I'm not sure I buy into this. Not that certain teams haven't played well against us recently, but it comes across as an attempt to excuse our team for not playing well when we know they can play better. I'm fairly certain that teams don't have OU circled on the calendar in basketball....even this year. This sounds a bit over the top to me. We have no control as to whether our opponents come out intense/focused or not; but we do have control over how we come out play from the start.....and that needs to get better as of late.

Once Trae blew up OU became a game that is circled IMO. The same happened with the Hield led team. IMO, LSU played their best game of the season against OU in the Hield season and Bama played their best game of the season last weekend against the Young-led Sooners. I said before the game to my wife and son that OU would get Bama's best game of the year and I believe that is what OU got. Now, that doesn't justify how OU played, because ultimately OU needs to step up to other team's energy/hustle/determination.

I don't find it coincidental at all that teams shoot the 3 better against us than their average/game....especially of late. When you don't defend the perimeter properly at times, you tend to give the opposition a greater amount of "good/uncontested" looks. Naturally, the more good looks a team gets, the higher the chances are that they convert. This isn't always the case, but logic tells you you're more likely to be burned from the outside in this scenario.

Having said that, we had a fair amount of good looks against Bama, but didn't convert at the rate we needed. And this probably evened out a bit in our next game....because we hit our share of open looks against Baylor.

In the 2nd half, Baylor was hitting EVERYTHING from deep...hand in face or not! Sometimes, you are just unfortunate. We were lucky to come away with a win the other night...because we definitely got their "best shot".

I won't say OU's defense has been good, it hasn't. Sometimes the difference in these games are how well the role players perform (they are usually better at home).

It certainly did with Manek.

You are saying you expected them to lose to Mizzou because of Bama’s win-loss record.

Despite it being identical to Mizzou’s.

Hence my odd logic remark.

Bama played a great game because we didn't defend them. Period

I expect them to lose a few games that people would expect them to win after watching them beat us. They are an a average team and would be hovering near the bottom of Big 12 if they were a part of this conference.
