Barry Tramel calling no mas on Travis Ford

A friend of a friend called the osu bb office to inquire about a student getting on as a manager. The secretary told him to call back they are anticipating some changes soon. He was surprised the secretary said that. Looks like Travis might be toast.

I was told last week that he's gone, but his kids will remain in stillwater HS. FYI

I think BT joined the Booger Pickens bandwagon when Booger made his big donation. Booger needed someone in the media to champion his Stoolwater State Cowpokers. I'd bet BT has made Booger's speed dial list for whenever he needs a good word for the Cowpokers!

$7 Millon is a lot but plenty of alumni can still afford to pay it. Plus its been reported that it can be paid out over several years.

when okie state does make a move, do you guys think Doug Gottlieb is a direction they would go? Or do they get someone with experience after the mess Ford has done?

No. 100% experience especially after they've seen what getting a guy like Kruger has done for OU.

Problem is, they're not going to be in any position to get into a bidding war over an experienced coach.

This would be a terrible decision, financially.

They will have a lot more firepower back next year, with Forte and Evans. That will be one of the best guard duo's in the league next year. In the post, they are bringing in some 4 star guys. On the wing, they have pretty solid role players like Shine and Carroll. Depending on what happens with Davon Dillard, they could have another top 100 guy on the wing, but he has a ton of baggage.

Travis Ford sucks, but he has slipped into some NCAA Tournaments and at OSU, that is really your primary goal. Just get into the NCAA Tournament and be competitive in the league. Something like a top 5 or 6 finish. That's as good as you can do at OSU, and I think Ford can do that.

Give him a chance to do this next year, and I guarantee they won't flop again.

How can they afford that?

A better question might be, how can they afford not to make a change?

It's also possible the reported $7 mil buyout may be negotiable. If there are clauses in Ford's contract to protect the university and he has not toed the line on all of them, that could be grounds for a lengthy court battle he may not want to go through.

That's pure speculation on my part. But it makes sense to me that Okie State's lawyers may have been smart enough to add some things to the contract to protect them from what was one of the dumbest moves in history when Ford was given a ten years extension.

Without paying much attention to osewe basketball, I got the impression that Ford was a good recruiter and he is a good defensive coach.

They haven't won many but they've pretty competitive in recent weeks. I expect them to be pretty good next season; someone's going to step into a pretty sweet setup.

If they were in a better position (more stability, better roster/talent, fan support, AD support, etc) I could see them settling on Doug. They cannot settle right now. They need a Lon Kruger bc this is a rebuild, almost complete. They might have some nice pieces next season but their roster, as a whole, has been mismanaged ALL of Ford's time there. It's basically trash by Big 12 standards. Even if they find the right coach, I think they're 2-3 years away from competing in the upper half of this conference.
