Baylor

Well that is because Baylor gets poor coaching. Miss M makes way too much money. :ez-laugh::ez-laugh::ez-laugh::ez-laugh: ;)

Haha, you and Proud are Angry Elf's, lol. I am Tickled we finally won one over the witch BUT she has more than earned her money if you take your homer glasses off. National titles anyone? Top 5 program anyone? Hmmmm

I think the Baylor fans see this much as a lot of OU fans saw this. Baylor was better than OU. It would take an upset for OU to beat Baylor, and upset of major proportions. Some of us had been saying how OU could win. Several believed.

When Sherri stood in front of the crowd pumping her fist, she wasn't celebrating an upset. That is too ephemeral to celebrate that much. Sherri was making a statement, "we're back!" She has watched this young team develop, and she has had faith. She believed in Kay Kay when I certainly didn't. Kay Kay didn't let her down this time. Kay Kay didn't let herself down this time.

Tango is right about Gabbi. Gabbi's improvement was a key to this game. She had to be able to contain or at least slow down Niya. We had to have someone keep Nina off the boards. We even had Nina's shots get blocked a couple of times.

The team celebrated because they realized for the first time that they had made a statement. They're back. By playing together, they can play with anyone. They may not beat UConn. But, they won't back down and cower as they did in the first game against Baylor. As Sherri said, we played no defense in the first game. Even when we began to score, they kept the lead because we played defense in a panic mode for forty minutes. We had no panic in us this time.

It makes it easier on Gioya if she doesn't have to have a great game. It makes it easier on Peyton if she can miss a shot. It makes it easier on Kay Kay if she doesn't have to block the shot. They can win by just doing it right for forty minutes. If you do it right, the dry spells last a couple of minutes, not ten. The runs are six, not twenty-six.

Once you learn what they now know, the game becomes easier. There is no reason to panic against Kansas or Oklahoma State. Just come to play. Do that every game.

Love your words here Syb, great post. The best part of this game was from the opening tip to the final buzzer, this team didn't cower and never shied from the moment.
Beaten by 20+ in Waco, they could have played to make a decent showing.
Down six late, they could've hung heads and thought, "man, we had them" … but they just kept believing and playing. That mindset will serve this team and should permeate our future teams as we're basically a freshman and sophomore-laden team. Not too many things better than a young and confident team.
Compete hard/compete together/compete until final buzzer = great things for our Sooners.

Don't be too frustrated with yourself V.

When you mature you'll have a sense of humor too.

...by the way, any team that doesn't win because they weren't motivated is a poorly coached team.

Just admit you were hoisted on your own petard.

````````
Just the petard without the hoist.
Vinny has responded to your post. I have him/her on ignore. If you quote him, I see his post, which kind of defeats the idea of ignore. Since nobody posts the nonsense that he posts unless they are seeking attention, I wouldn't give it to him. Petard is an appropriate term. Look it up.
The phrase was actually introduced by Shakespeare (I think in Hamlet).
The word hoist means raise up, so Shakespeare's suggestion was that one could be blown into the air by his own bomb with the obvious meaning being that one could try to damage another and suddenly find himself/herself damaged (or his argument destroyed) by the very device/words intended to hurt his opponent.
Perhaps someone on here - who got hoisted - did not study Shakespeare?
Nope, I avoided Shakespeare for all 4 years and am proud to say that
I know i only competed in HS but I never needed a coach to get me ready.
Plus, several times people have posted on this board, following a loss, how the team came out flat. Does that mean Sherri didn't motivate them?
Their is a difference between being "ready" to play and having been prepared to play. Prepared to me means coaches haven given players a game plan for offense and defense prior to the game, drilled throughout practices on what that teams basics are, instilled confidence, toned up then rested with fresh legs for the game. "Ready" , as KCRuf/Nek intimated, is mostly on the player. Eager to play and mentally involved can be enhanced by a coach, but it has to start with players, but that is also where leadership among players is important. Note Sharane in the Baylor game
Baylor 24
Iowa State 25
Iowa State went over five minutes without a FG and three minutes without scoring, and still leads. They did fall behind by one.
