You are articulate and intelligent, but a better argument doesn't change things. It isn't what one player can do, it is what replacements do, given the chance. I just think its funny that some fans think that one player makes a team (or in this case, unmakes a team).
And yes, we COULD win games the rest of the year without Maddie. Never know what players with more opportunities can accomplish.
I think that Maddie is what Sherri has been hoping for. When recruited, she was called another Stacy Dales. Post-injury, that never developed. But, she has begun to come into it this year, with probably the last aspect being a desire to take the scoring lead. But, Maddie brings something to the game that we have no other player that can bring. If she isn't shooting, she can alter a game with defense, and she has. She beat TCU in Fort Worth once just by blocking shots and getting steals. Today, we had nobody getting on the boards, and she responded with nine boards.
We have no other player who can get as many tips to keep a ball in play, or who can initiate a process leading to a steal. She can change a game in many ways.
The key is that Maddie isn't looking first at herself. She looks to see how she can set someone else up if she is guarded. She also tends to get into an open area, which other players simply don't find enough. She is the closest thing we have to an all-around player who can provide us with another defender, another scorer, another rebounded, another shot blocker, another point guard, another end of game ball handler.
Peyton is pretty good. But, Peyton focuses on her own shot and scoring and isn't the best at dribbling, or setting others up.
