Beginning to believe Duke must beat Duke

coach K hates one and dones. to me that makes him a fricking hero.

I don't think it's his coaching ability. I think people have a problem with his personality. Especially in the last couple years since coaching the Olympic team.

Who are Duke's pro's?

I can see maybe 3. The 7' guy. One of the white shooters they have and Smith could make it. This isn't close to Coach K's most talented team though. Everyone could agree with that.

That's what I was wondering. Singler is pretty comparable to Hayward in terms of pro potential. Nolan might become a servicable backup PG in the League if he continues to improve his ball handling. Z will get a look just because of his size, but I don't think he will ever be anything special at the next level. It is yet to be seen how good the Plumlees will become, but at this point I don't think they are sure-fire pro prospects. If he is anything like his brother, Seth Curry could be a good pro, but he is sitting out this year.

Ya, I hated it when he took us back to winning gold medals.

I think Hayward projects as a much better Pro than Singler.

I could see that, I just happen to disagree (I guess that is the difference between a Duke fan and a Horizon league fan). GH has a higher upside because of his length and his frame, but KS handles the ball and shoots better. Both are pretty good defenders and have been consistently covering the other teams main threat throughout the tourney. I also think KS uses his size well down-low, and you have to remember that this is the first year he has been able to play his true position (SF) full time at Duke. Before this year, he has had to help a lot down low, so I think he has room to get quite a bit better. I think both should come back next year but I don't know if they will, since it is a weak draft.

Nothing against him but a lot of guys could coach that team to a gold medal. You should never lose a game when you have Kobe, LeBron, D-Wade, Bosh, Paul, and about 8 other top level NBA players.

that's been disproven a few times now. L2L from past history.

He'll also need a vast improvement on his on the ball defense... He'll struggle guarding many PG's in the league given his trouble defending quick PG's.

That's basically this whole team's limitation as far as the pro's are concerned (that and Scheyer's over reliance on his right hand). Which is why I don't see any of them (with the possible exception of KS) getting anything more than spot minutes in the NBA. They bring something to the table, but it would have to be specific game situations with the right team. That said, I've been watching Duke BB for a long time, and this group has improved more as a whole over the past 3-4 years than any group I can recall. That is one reason why this has been such a gratifying year as a fan and why I have been so defensive about the Duke hate around here lately, especially considering our (OU) season and our current players' recent lack of development. Hopefully all that turns around and I can say the same things about our team here in 2-3 years.

Good post. You're right, they have vastly improved over the season, and considering the fact that scouts aren't exactly salivating over the team's NBA prospects, I think its a testament to Coach K and his staff for having them play so well.
