Maybe this has been a topic of discussion on this board before, but I was just wondering what some of you think about our coaches on campus. Yes, part of being a coach is recruiting. Recruiting well, too.
After the men and women won the gymnastics titles on Saturday night this got me thinking about who they might be.

Patty Gasso (obvious choice)
Kinder
Williams
Who else?

Personally I would say that Mark Williams with 7 national championships, 7 national runner-ups and a third place finish in 15 years at OU is OU's top recruiter. In addition he had 5 OU gymnasts on the 2012 Olympics team (two in the lineup and three alternates). That kind of success takes recruiting talent at the top level in addition to developing the talent once it gets on campus.

Patty and K.J. do an outstanding job bringing top talent to Norman but not at the level of Mark Williams.

+1

There are not that many teams who have men's gymnastics. But Williams seems to dominate the talent that is out there. But I don't think you are comparing apples and apples when you say that Williams is the best recruiter.

All of them do a great job and really show that many of the so called disadvantages that OU has in recruiting is somewhat a myth.

There are only 15 other men's teams for Williams to compete against (76 others in D1 for Kinder to go against).

It's a lot harder to compete for kids in many of the other sports on campus. Not saying that Williams isn't a great recruiter, just that you can't really make a legit comparison...

I agree that there is much more competition for athletes in most sports (WG 76 teams vs MG 15 teams). However we need to be reminded that there are 10-20 times as many young girls competing in gymnastics than there are men prior to going to college so the selection pool is infinitely larger. Also I can identify 10 of the 15 schools presently fielding gymnastics teams as multiple national champions in the last 25 years and annually field outstanding teams. So the competition for the limited athletes available is extremely high in men's gymnastics. Conversely only 6 women's gymnastics teams have won national championships all time so the competition may not from top schools may be more limited.

The Pac12 used to dominate then the SEC rose up. Nebraska has always been tough and the Big 10 is reasonably competitive.

The answer is Stoops and Kruger. Failure to understand that is a significant indicator that you are lost.

I would not give it to Williams. My gosh, he is the USA National team coach. There is little doubt that men gymnasts would flock to OU to get an edge.

Contrary to other comments, I would not give it to Stoops or Kruger. Neither have had a Top Ten recruiting class in many years. They do a lot with the material that OU gets.

I give it to Patti or K . J. because there are many D-1 teams out there in each sport. Softball has 295 D-1 schools and Patti has had multiple #1 recruiting classes according to media sources. KJ is out recruiting almost every other women's gymnastics team.

I thought top men's gymnasts flocking to OU to get an edge is the definition of what a top recruiter does. The top gymnast that come to OU come because of Mark Williams not in spite of Mark Williams. Furthermore Mark has been coaching OU for 15 seasons and was the head coach of the U.S. Men's National team in only 2014. In the past his coaching peers have also served as the national coach. And don't forget he has had 32 individual national champions and 172 All American honors.

One may not want to declare Williams the best recruiter but if you look at the amount of talent he brings to Norman which is what recruiting is there is no comparison.

Considering the competition, Patty Gasso and Switzer are the two best I've ever seen or heard of.
