I think the days of the combined Big 12 tournament are done. First the timing was a disadvantage for WBB for several reasons:
(1) In all other conferences the women's tournament was held the week before the men's. This meant that all the other conferences got a week's rest between the conference tournament and the start of the NCAA's. You do notice that we are now holding the Women's Tournament the week before the men's right?
(2) Outside of Oklahoma City, there seems to be no place that is really interested in in hosting the combined tournament. Kansas City's shabby treatment of the women's tournament last year was the direct impetus for this year's change. OKC has had by far the most successful combined tournaments, but there are political forces in play that would never allow a permanent OKC site for the combined tournament. I suspect we will find out next year that OKC does much better than Dallas for the Women's Tournament, and it may be possible to get OKC as the permanent site for that.
