Bill Self Medical Issues...

Fortunately not a heart attack and is expected to make a full recovery. They haven’t specified what the procedure was but said it was not a heart attack.

As a physician you wonder what procedure he had. Not a MI so did he have chest pain and normal angiogram. Simple procedure. Other rumors were stroke which they chose not to mention. Clearly not a stroke because he wouldn’t be answering. Could have been a TIA or stroke like feelings. A couple simple tests not really procedure for that except code stroke stuff which I don’t know exactly what they do.

Sounds like he got a scare but is well!

That's what I was wondering about as well. What "simple procedure?" Upper GI series? EGD?

"reported" by some ku guys that he had chest pain (not heart attack) went to the Er

and had a partial artery blockage and got 1 or 2 stents put it..

unknown if that is 100% accurate ..

but the recovery for that procedure is a week back at work

I’ve heard from a very reliable source that he had a couple stents put in.

There must be more to the story than two stents. Absolutely no reason uncomplicated stents would keep you out a week later. Also he was hospitalized for a few days. Stents at most go home the next day.

I’m very confident that’s all it is. Or I should say, I know it wasn’t a heart attack. He has been coaching practice the past three days. I assume they just didn’t think the stress of a game was worth risking for a game they knew they’d win comfortably.

I would say he definitely had a heart attack. A blocked artery supplying blood to the heart is a heart attack. His troponin levels had to be elevated.

The blockage wasn't caught on a CT Angiogram test, where he could have an outpatient heart cath. He was experiencing symptoms and went to the ED per that release.

You can definitely be up on your feet again just a few days after a heart attack, but his heart is definitely weaker than before (lower ejection fraction) that can be reversed with cardiac therapy. I could see him sitting one more game and returning in the sweet 16.

That’s not necessarily true. Having symptoms and getting stents is not a guarantee he had a heart attack. Most blockages are not 100% and it takes time to develop heart muscle damage. If he was treated early, it’s possible he did not have a heart attack.

I don’t believe he had a heart attack nor do I think his ejection fraction was lowered. KU never addressed the other rumors. Thinking might be some issue with them.

What other rumors?
