Billy Gillispie could have landed at OU >>> Tulsa World

<sigh>

I really think Billy will stay clean, and do an amazing job at TT.

he had no shot I love it when reporters quote "sources close to the program" that means he had an OU shirt on when he wrote it

Yea, those that are opposed to Billy i believe dont really know what they are talking about...i'm a little closer to him so i know more about him personally and that is why i was so bummed we didnt land him (choose to land him)...

I really think this would have been a better situation for him to win big at, although i do think he will have Tech in the tourney every year as well as upgrading talent and style/competetiveness...

The guy is a great recruiter and great in this region...has so many connections it is rediculous...I will def be a closet Tech fan while he is there...

He reminds me of the character Shooter, from Hoosiers. He knows hoops you just to pray he shows up sober to the games.

Yep.

Not to mention, his defense/pace will keep his team's in a LOT of games.

Some of you guys don't believe in any second chances. I hope you don't treat your friends and family that way.

BCG would have been great for OU in my opinion and if we don't hire Buzz then I have to believe that Tech is going to be better than us for years to come. I hope i'm wrong but if we whiff on him and have to settle for someone else and BCG was there for the taking i'm going to be severely disappointed.

when you have hired back to back coaches who have had NCAA violations you have to bring in someone who has no baggage. BG is a fine coach and probably a great person but it is not the type of coach they can hire right now

If Sittler were as smart as he thinks he is, he'd be a national sports star!!! GEEZ! Reminds me of Trammel with his "Glamour Shot" picture!!!

BCG would have been a good fit at OU if not for the personal baggage, and more importantly the NCAA investigation. His tough, hardnosed defensive coaching style is as close to Kelvin Sampson as anyone I can think of. It's easy to see why OU had no choice but to reject any thought of taking a chance on him.

Our next hire has to be someone who is above reproach personally and professionally. Someone like Buzz Williams!

Hard not to get the hopes up, isn't it?

This is a dumb comment.

BCG may have had a few DUI's, but he's never shown up to a game drunk as far as anybody knows. He's a long way from Shooter.

I'm with the other poster, everybody deserves a 2nd chance.

I hope he succeeds and somebody in a different conference hires him away because I think he's going to be a thorn in our side for a long time.

Since there have been 3 alcohol related incidents with him at three different jobs (yes, I know he was no longer UK's coach when the last one happened, but he was boozing it up heavily at UK), wouldn't this be his 4th chance?

And I am not saying he didn't deserve another job and that Tech was foolish for hiring him, as I think it is an excellent fit for them.

Well, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles, I guess it is his 4th chance. As for coaching, I would say it's a 2nd chance.

Also, 2 of those charges were either dropped or reduced to lesser charges.

I will also add, he's still nowhere close to Shooter on Hoosiers.

Very true, no way he coaches the picket fence as well as Shooter.

And if you took my first comment literally you're a little slow today.

I swear that BCG's has some of you on his payroll.

If you were being sarcastic, why not add an emoticon to denote that?
