Blake Griffin's season is over

I stand by my point. OU has had a decent amount of solid role players in the NBA, but not much else.

As predicted, you're now revising your original "point." No surprise there. Nothing in your first post acknowledged that OU has even had a decent amount of role players.

And you have your facts wrong. Six former Sooners have averaged or are averaging double digits in the NBA: BG, Hield, Mookie, Wayman, Adams and Sidle. And Harvey Grant averaged 9.9 points for his career.

I think his numbers were right, but he used very strange criteria. He basically used everything he could to exclude guys, and OU still had more than TU. I think Sidle was ABA. Grant averaged 18 points or more for 3 consecutive seasons, so excluding him for playing several years as a role player at the tail-end of his career is laughable.

I don't even have time to correct everything wrong with this post.

Eielson did some of it already.

smh

Fair enough; I was wrong on Sidle (he's still worthy of mention, in my opinion -- if a Sooner footballer excelled in the AFL, would he never be afforded credit for that success?), but my point stands: Your initial post was not at all accurate, and as I predicted, you quickly started revising your stance when called on it.

Yes, good points on Sidle. There are two Sooners in the AFL HOF - Bob Kalsu and Wahoo McDaniel (a war hero and someone who became more famous for wrestling) - and I count them as NFL players. Sidle's ABA career (4 years) was too short to be on OU's two-deep NBA roster, but he may have led the league in rebounding one of those years, and averaged more than a dozen points a game though his brief career. He probably belongs over Stacey King on the NBA roster.

I think it's hilarious how pretty much all Thunder fans HATED Blake until KD bolted. Then they pulled a complete 180 knowing that he was the best chance at getting another superstar with Russ

If you take the crimson classes off, Blake is a great player but his theatrics are over the top. So naturally, unless a player that plays like this is on your team, you aren't going to like him.

And I'm sure NBA players know that fans are like this...it's nothing personal.

Besides, I don't think Blake is a good option for OKC. He would be fun to watch but I don't think he is the piece the thunder needs

I didn't revise my stance at all. It's not my fault you tried to read too much into what I said.

This is exactly what we're talking about. You view him as "them" rather than "ours."

If he's good enough for Team USA, he's good enough for OKC.

Well I'm speaking from teh perspective of a thunder fan. If I start talking about former OU players in the NBA or sooner greats, I will include him in "we" or "ours". It is OK to separate them

It's not a matter of good enough...its a matter of the right fit and making a roster that will be competitive.

A sack of magic beans could provide more worth than some of the "pieces" already playing meaningful minutes.

I'm not sure how Blake Griffin wouldn't be exactly what they need. Adams, Kanter, and Gipson are good players but not special and similar players in that they lack key elements of their game. Griffin is an All Star and what he lacks he more than makes up for with his special ability. He, alongside another explosive type player in Westbrook, would give the Thunder two bonafide All Stars in the starting lineup once again. Oladipo isn't far behind in athletic prowess either. I do hope they would keep Adams somehow alongside Griffin.

PG - Westbrook
SG - Oladipo
SF - Roberson
PF - Griffin
C - Adams

Obviously with a player the caliber of Griffin on the floor, Westbrook can sneak off the floor a bit more and you can quit trying to work your offense through Adams/Kanter/Oladipo/etc. These guys can get it done but are not dominating the game in anyway. Griffin would resolve that issue I would think. BUT it's a pipe dream... I recognize that. But as I said watching Griffin struggle out West certainly can't hurt the Thunder's chances of bringing him home. I could see it happening.

I mean it would be fun to watch and that is a great lineup...but whats the bench?

The main problem with the team as it is right now is not backup PG and no legitimate shooters that can play both ways

I like Griffin and Adams being spelled with Sabonis and Grant. Would love to keep Gipson or Kanter but my guess is they'd get shipped off in exchange for Griffin. Maybe find another serviceable big via draft or pull a Presti by somehow nabbing a serviceable big in the trade. McDermott and Abrines are good shooters off the bench. At BPG I don't mind riding with Cole for another season. Not sure anyone else feels that way but Criston has shown some ability. Nonetheless backup PG is a concern.

It's apparent this Thunder team is a ways off from competing for the championship so it'll take a couple of moves and maybe a couple years to get there. But nabbing Griffin get's us there much faster with only bench work left to do.

Again I'm wasting my time because it isn't going to happen. :facepalm

Westbrook
Oladipo
McBucketts
Blake
Adams

Roberson needs to be gone. way too limited offensively. Shoot Id get Jimmer from China for my back up PG spot

Tough crowd!

Part of being a great pro is staying on the floor. Some of his injuries are flukes, and some are self-inflicted. Busting you hand upside the trainer's face is absolutely unforgivable.

I think he gets a terrible rap from Thunder fans. As an impartial observer (remember, I have no team....Go Sonics!) it always made me laugh because when I would see the exchanges it was pretty obvious to me that Ibaka was the dirty player.

And I'm also not the type to just blindly follow Sooners into the pros. I have my professional teams and I've stuck with them through a crapload of thin. As a Vikings fan, one can only handle so many soul-crushing, drive-killing fumbles from Adrian Peterson.

It is all in the eyes of the beholder. AD has averaged a lost fumble once every 105 carries/receptions. Emmitt Smith once every 109 carries/receptions.
