Blake Griffin is really playing well now, especially with Chris Paul out. He has averaged 34 points and 12 boards a game over his last 3 games. He had 43 and 15 against the Heat on Wednesday (Lebron had 31 and 12). I think this is his best stretch so far, and he is answering some of his critics and doing a lot more than just dunking.

The Clips are going to be a tough team to beat when Paul gets back in playing shape. Jordan has become an animal on the boards, and Crawford is a good player, too.

Nothing you said was incorrect, though the Clippers defense was downright awful against the Heat. That part of their game will need to improve before they ever get past the Western semis.

Also, don't be surprised if you don't get a lot of agreement. I was defending Blake Griffin a few weeks back when a poster (an OU fan to boot) said there were 5 power forwards in the Western Conference better than Blake. You have some Thunder fans on here who don't care much for him. I would also imagine he drew the ire of some fans here when they heard him in a recent commercial mentioning his "college coach" - a guy he obviously thinks very highly of (shame on him, huh?).

Of course, no former basketball alum will likely ever get mentioned on the recruiting trail by OU coaches present and future than current 4-time (and counting) All-Star selection Blake Griffin

One of the main reasons he likely thinks highly of Capel is he has no reference point and he doesn't realize that he, Taylor and the other Sampson players kept the team together due to the discipline Sampson instilled in those guys and the discipline Tommy Griffin instilled in Blake and Taylor.

Blake has been a beast on the offensive end since Paul went down with an injury. He's unstoppable when he gets the ball anywhere near the basket. LeBron was powerless in the Heat game to stop him from scoring. I'm also amazed by how far BG has come with his outside shot and his free throw shooting. He's like a different player in those two areas. I'm amazed by it, but I shouldn't be surprised. I already knew Blake would work hard to get better, and it's obvious he has invested the time it takes to do that.

IMO, Blake's only weakness is his defense. I'm sure he has to save some of his energy for the rest of his game, and who can blame him? But if he is going to be a complete player, he needs to improve his defense. It's not that he can't do it. I have seen him turn it on and lock down his man a number of times. He just plays so hard on offense and in rebounding the ball, I think he may have to pace himself to some extent.

Doc Rivers seems to really have helped Blake. No surprise, as I think Rivers is the best coach in the NBA.

This is the kind of drivel I absolutley despise. You're implying that Blake is too stupid to understand his relationship with Jeff Capel, and that is absolutely ridiculous.

I would say he's right behind coach Pop, but either way I think those are easily the top 2.

Let me guess, you think Scott Brooks is?

No.

I just really think he is that great of a coach.
I like pop and thibs are.

I just went and looked at the current list of coaches and I guess that rivers is actually pretty high. Just don't think that says much

Pop is definitely the best coach in the league and then I believe its Rick Carlisle at second. In today's NBA, superstars want to join together to win rings. He managed to win a ring with one superstar, Dirk, and is the only coach to beat the Heat's big 3 in a playoff series. I give him the edge over Doc, because they both only have one ring. I do believe though that Doc is a great motivator.

It takes a lot to do exactly what Vinny Del Negro was doing. They aren't any better. They won close to 20 games in a row at one point last year.

Chris Paul has been out the last 15 games.

If my memory serves me correctly, Rivers wasn't that highly regarded as a coach until they got Allen and Garnett to team up with Pierce.

Every coach needs good players so I don't buy your argument. You don't think Pat Riley and Phil Jackson had good players.

I know.

Even if they won all 15 of those games, which is obviously unlikely, they would only be a couple games ahead of the record they had at this point last year.

Should have kept Vinny and their picks.

The Clippers don't have the same firepower compared to last year, especially with the 2nd team. Jared Dudley has been a big disappointment. Redick has been injured for a good chunk. Lamar Odom and Rony Turiaf were good 2nd team players, that they didn't really replace.

That is definitely true, but as a lifelong Lakers fan, I came to realize Rivers was a top-tier coach during the 2008 NBA Finals. He actually out-coached Phil Jackson - not an easy task.

Pops is definitely #1, and Doc is in the conversation with about 5 other coaches (such as Carlisle and Brooks) for #2.

My Lakers have been the (deserving) butt of a lot of Jay Leno jokes instead of the Clippers thanks to the likes of Blake Griffin. But unless he's playing against the Lakers, I'm always rooting for him. He still needs to work on his defense, but I like the fact that he has taken the Magic Johnson approach and worked on one new thing each offseason...the guy's a WINNER...PERIOD.

No, I am suggesting he has no other reference. The only college coach he played for was Capel.
