Someone tweeted that there was no mention of LNC renovations on the agenda.

Is this true?

I saw an article that said the Football stadium renovations would be on the agenda. (I copied it below.) That doesn't mean there will be no work done on LNC.

OU Stadium Renovations to be on Board of Regents Agenda Next Week.

by Ryan Aber

Renovations to Oklahoma Memorial Stadium are on the agenda for the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents meeting that begins Monday in Ardmore, according to the preliminary agenda posted Thursday.

While no specifics are listed on the agenda—including anticipated cost—the posting says “certain significant student athlete, team, operation and stadium improvement projects have been identified that will combine new state of the art features and elements to create an enhanced experience for OU’s athletic teams, students, student-athletes, alumni, fans, and visitors.”

Renovations aren’t expected to stretch the capacity of the stadium much beyond its current capacity of 82,112. The plan is likely to include new suites on the stadium’s west side, a new press box and additional chairback seating.

The board will be asked to include the stadium master plan updates on the Campus Master Plan of Capital Improvements Projects, approve the “further development of projects consistent” with the stadium master plan process and authorize the administration to negotiate terms of an agreement for architectural services with the Kansas City firm that developed the plan, Populous, Inc. The specific projects will require additional approval by the board.

Also, space in the north end zone will be renovated to be utilized for academic reasons by the school.

The board will likely be asked in its September meeting to approve a recommendation for a construction management firm.

The agenda says “funding for architectural services and further project development have been identified are are available” from athletic department funds.

The meeting begins at 3:30 p.m. Monday and will be continued at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Other items on the agenda that involve athletics:
- Authorization of a contract for charter air travel for the football team for the 2014 season with the option to renew for four more one-year periods.

The football team will travel by air to four away games this season.

The four-person evaluation committee—three from the athletic department— recommends the board select the bid by United Airlines. United’s bid wasn’t the lowest of the six submitted but based on the reliability of the carrier, the committee chose United.

United bid $469,706 for the service. Other bids that met the aircraft size requirements were for $331,500 and $383,370. The other three bids were for aircraft that did not meet the minimum seating requirements for the team.

- Annual review of compensation and contracts of Athletic Director Joe Castiglione and coaches in all sports, including Bob Stoops and his assistants.
- Security services for athletic venues. Security personnel costs for the upcoming fiscal year are anticipated to be $900,000.

If they want to start the stadium renovations right after the last game, they have to put contract up for bid etc soon. The earliest any work could be done on LNC would be next spring so it makes sense that it wouldn't be on the agenda yet.

The agenda uses the term "master plan" or something of that ilk, instead of going into detail on what exactly they are reviewing. I read the agenda yesterday and the language is purposefully cryptic to avoid any leaks. There is nothing specific about LNC or OMS in the agenda. The only meaningful thing in the agenda concerning athletic facilities is that there will be a meeting in September to authorize funding. Again, the language is carefully crafted so that the University/Athletics leadership can control the disbursement of information.

According to Carey Murdock, Joe C. told the media the upgrades will happen in pieces and it won't be a massive overhaul.

Looks like football wins again.

I'm sure if some donor got a around to droping about 40 mill for basketball renovations they would start it....but IMO Lloyd noble is a money pit and they would be better off building a 9,000 seater in the same general area since the basketball complex is already in place.

I think we won't know whether it's a money pit or not until the master plan is released. Also, LNC is in use a lot more than the stadium so the work days during the year would be a lot less.

Wasn't sure where to put this and maybe I've missed it since I'm not on this board much in between basketball season, but Fran Fraschilla tweeted this picture about 30 minutes ago of OU at practice:

Hard to tell from that angle, but was some work done on the other end of the court with the white background and the "There's Only One Oklahoma"? Or was that there last year?

Doesn't look any different. Maybe it said something else, but it looks the same

The chairs for the band and media are not set up so it looks different.
