Bracketology (Jan 5th)

I see where that site has 6.2 Big 12 teams receiving bids. That breaks down to one-fifth of oswho's starters making the tourney; I assume it'll be Forte who gets the invite?

He's a solid player, but I suspect he'll struggle in a 1-against-5 situation.

Not only a 3 seed, but a 9 on the S curve. They have us as the highest ranked 3 seed. (assuming I'm reading that correctly).

Yes, that's correct. They're also projecting us to be the Big 12 champion with an overall record of 22-8 and a conference mark of 11-5.

And after the Washington game people were calling this team a 7-8 seed.

LOL

fyp

So a record of 22-8 (13-5) doesn't include the Big 12 tourney. I think if OU were to win a couple games there and head into the big dance at 24-9 (15-6) a #2 seed is within reach if everything fell into place.

9 losses is a LOT for a 2 seed. We only had 9 losses last year and we were a 5.

Thanks for correcting my faulty math, MrA. You're right, the record that site projected for OU was only for the regular season. And who knows? Win the conference tourney on top of the regular season title and we could be looking at a very high seed indeed.

On second thought, it's way too early to be thinking that way. :)

KU got a #2 last year with a 24-9 and 14-4 conf record and they only won 1 game in the conf tournament. But you're probably right, if OU does go 13-5 (which would be great) then they would probably need to win the Big 12 tournament as well.

I was somewhat guilty as I thought at that time we were in the 6-7 range. I was worried because:
a) Washington was overrated (the computers had them in the 30s)
b) We were experiencing issues in close games with decision making and poor execution.

With our improved effort/efficiency on the defensive end, the emergence of Thomas, and our somewhat improved shot selection, my worries are history. But I was right about Washington being overrated....they've certainly regressed back to the mean over the last few weeks (they are a low-end bubble team).

It's early... Too early to call them a 3 seed and too early to call them a 7 seed. You never know when they are going to go down to Fort Worth, Lubbock, etc and lay an egg and get beat.

These types of things happen all the time. Beating some overrated Texas team this early in the year doesn't prove or disprove anything.

All that being said, I bet OU settles in around a 5 seed.

I think that's reasonable. If the tournament started today and I was doing seeding I'd put them as a 4.

What's up with that game? I sit courtside and they didn't show up for the 1st half!! I was hoping to see the team that showed up against Texas. That's why I'm overly cautious to the point of pessimism. Every time you think they have turned the corner they have collapsed.

Here's to hoping the 1st half of Washington & second half of Creighton were learning experiences and not the same recurring nightmare!

:facepalm

Ou is looking like the clear big 12 favorite right now. The regular season is half way over and we are a top5 defensive team. We have the ability to score inside and out. Solid pg play from Woodard, cousins, and walker. I don't see a lot of weaknesses.

ut may have been overrated at 10, but there's little doubt they are top 20. We destroyed them by 20+ at their house. You can make a case that that was the most impressive win by any team all season.

Tcu on the other hand...now that's an overrated squad!

It's early to call Texas overrated as well. They could settle into around 10-15 in the end.

Do you need to be negative to feel good?
