Here is what ESPN currently has.

If seeds held to form, here is who OU would play in our region:

Texas Southern/Wagner
Connecticut
Duke
Xavier

When predicting "how far OU will go", most always mention matchups. In this scenario, I see almost no way we wouldn't make the Sweet 16. I think Duke could give us trouble there, especially if they are healthy, but I'd probably pick OU to win that game. However, I would probably have us losing to Xavier.

Maryland and ND are the 3 and 6 seeds on the Xavier side of the bracket. Utah the 5 seed on OU's side.

UConn would be a very tough Round of 32 draw. When I'm picking brackets in March I always look for tradition-rich programs slotted at 7-9 and pick at least one to make a run.

Xavier doesn't worry me too much.

I think we'd handle them.

Losing to Xavier??? When are people going to stop giving the burnt out shell of hte Big East credit.

So if you don't think we'd lose to them, or Nova I'm guessing, who would you think OU "could" lose to?

Xavier is a good team that plays good defense, and has had Tourney success. I think it would be a tough matchup for us. I also wouldn't want to be paired with MSU or Virginia for the same reasons.

I would actually love to be paired against any of the teams you mentioned (assuming you have to play some good teams, obviously I'd rather play a bunch of scrubs).

Teams I don't want to see: North Carolina, Arizona, Utah, Maryland, Kentucky.

I want us to play perimeter oriented teams, because I'll take our guards against anyone. What I'm worried about is teams with big, athletic frontcourts that could potentially murder us on the glass and win with tons of extra possessions from offensive rebounds, as well not trusting Lattin to stay out of foul trouble.

Add Duke to that list for me. Do not want to run into the Blue Devils in the Sweet 16.

There are definitely some teams in that 7/8/9/10 range that could be tough matchups. Cal is young, but ultra talented. I think Wichita State is dangerous when healthy. UCONN doesn't bother me as much, but agree that a tradition-rich program can be dangerous in the early rounds. But I don't try to get too worked up about this stuff. A lot can change between now and March 13.

On a side note: how in the world does Lunardi have North Carolina as a #1 seed right now? If history tells us anything, it's that the committee values quality wins, and UNC has fewer (3) top 50 wins than the other #1 contenders by half or more. None of their truly quality wins were away from Chapel Hill and they have a middling SOS. I don't deny that UNC is a talented team, and they have some chances in the next few weeks to put some skins on the wall, but until then, I think their resume is closer to being a #3 than a #1.

It's so hard to predict this team even with the established matchups that you show here in this bracket. I feel like this team could win a national championship or we can lose in the round of 32.

Your user name is interesting. I hope it is in reference to a large flightless bird and not a digestive problem.

I agreed with what you said...until you said Arizona. They just are not that good. We would beat them

I have a hunch, based on nothing at all, that we're going to be playing Duke at some point.

That is probably a valid concern.

My concern is playing a good defensive team that isn't going to give us easy baskets. And that is exactly what Xavier, MSU, and Virginia would do. And MSU also has a top 5 coach on their bench, who tends to excel in March.

Agree with you on your premise. I believe Virginia is literally the worst matchup for us in the entire tournament. Michigan is always a tough out in March. Xavier has had some recent success has some toughness.

Teams I wouldn't mind playing: Maryland with the way they have been playing the last several weeks (average). Iowa is in a free fall lately (losing to teams they shouldn't) and Oregon is a good matchup for us....althought I believe the Ducks will be over-seeded and will be a good candidate for me to predict to be gone in the 1st weekend. Their metrics aren't very good.

The one "8/9 type of team" that I would like to avoid is Wichita State (see your reasoning).

Some teams that will be highly seeded I wouldn't mind playing:

Miami
NC
Iowa

Not that I care too much....but I just saw at halftime of the Maryland/Purdue game that Lunardi has us as a #2 seed (and not even the first #2 seed) now. We need to win our last two and the first game in the Big 12 conference tournament and we would likely be a lock for a #2 seed. If we were to win the Big 12 tournament (somehow)....we would certainly have an argument for a #1 seed, although it would depend on other results.

OU is very vulnerable,at this point I do not like their chances in the tourney

Xavier is really good. Those who think they aren't just because they're not a big name program will be really surprised when they watch them play.
