Brady Manek = Adam Morrison

I can't get too amped after watching a freshman play his first exhibition game. Same goes for Polla. It's way too early to say how good they're gonna be, but they both have potential and bet they both play this year. Maybe a lot. Manek maybe more than Polla. I will be more comfortable making comparisons late into the non-conference games.

Physically I say Polla reminds me of a bigger Kevin Bookout, but that doesn't imply he is as good as Kevin was as a freshman. I did visit with an OU staff member this summer and they are definitely excited about Hannes because he is a strong low post player.... and believe it's something they need at the 5 spot.

I don't have a good comparison for Manek. I know I would be nervous if I was Matt Freeman. He's a stretch 4 with a lot of height and good touch. I like that he battles on the boards. He's different than Doolittle. Physically he reminds me a little of Harvey Grant..... staying in the OU family. There I said it. Not nearly as polished yet, but a tall, slender stretch 4 with decent skills.

white - axtell
black - young robert horry at Bama

Although Horry was still thicker than Manek and Manek's shot is quicker. Looking for a tall, lanky wisp of a guy with a quick, accurate outside jumper and a variety of shots but not really a post-up game. Just really a pure 3. KD? I hate to say that because that is a little far reaching.

I was being sarcastic. Everyone wants to compare him to white guys only. He and Morrison dont even play the same position and are inches apart in height.

You obviously don't know anything about Morrison besides his skin color. Morrison is 6-8, skinny, and plays SF. How is that different than what manek projects to be? They both can shoot and have sneaky athleticism but need work on defense. If you want to throw out a different comp, go for it.

Last year's 9th place team, very likely still battling jet lag, beat that solid Kiwi team by 42 points and some of the key contributors in the game were true freshmen. What's not to like?

Would other Big 12 teams beat that team by more than 42 points? Hard to imagine, but I suppose it's possible. Still, no one's getting ahead of themselves that I can see -- except the posters rushing in to unnecessarily warn others not to get ahead of themselves.

pretty much every big 12 team would beat that team by 42 pts.

they were the equivalent of NAIA talent without any team chemistry.

We may certainly be better this year and I'm excited about Trae but goodness this Manek hype is a huge stretch. Hoping he can play a few minutes this year and contribute. By year 3 or 4 he'll be a solid stretch 4

the best players on this NZ select team were Division 2 JUCO players last year which is the lowest level talent of US college basketball there is.

For example Sam Smith average 9ppg last year for Brown Mackie Junior College and he dropped 24 vs OU.

Geez.

TY Going to be huge for OSU this year.

Comparing Manek to an NBA lottery pick after one exhibition game is getting ahead of a lot.

I was the one who said Manek reminded me PHYSICALLY of Harvey Grant while saying he wasn't nearly as polished. Grant was 6'8" and 195 when he graduated from OU. Not unlike Manek. It's not often OU has had a player that tall who isn't a pure post player. Grant averaged 5.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a freshman at Clemson coming off the bench. Not lottery like numbers. Manek could come close to those numbers this year. They are both stretch 4 type players or even wing. It's possible Manek could have a similar first year.

We're just having fun conjecturing.

Think I'll wait a little longer before comparing BM to anyone just yet. He does have a nice shot and isn't afraid to shoot. By mid-season we should know more, hard to really judge much from just one game and against that team.

actually he was KU bound until his dad decided to put his foot down. glad Trae is here though!

but none of that recruiting info makes Manek an impact guy at this level.

Do you know Trae? Why should anyone believe you? Don't get offended, honest question.

Like you said doesn't matter anyway. He signed and looks pretty happy to me...

You again? Since your predictions about TY didn't work out too well, maybe it's time for you to find another day job. Your reputation as an "expert" took such a hit around here, I doubt if anyone believes what you have to say about Brady Manek. I know I don't.

why dont you just focus on being a fan vice Nostradamus?

Some of you slow-your-roll experts need to work on your reading comprehension.

Oh, and Fran Fraschilla sees Manek as one key reason (Trae Young is other) he thinks our team is currently being underrated by the poll voters, so you might want to pop over to twitter and let him drink from your deep well of experience and wisdom.

From what I saw the other day and have seen from Manek in the past, he's already passed Freeman. He's got legitimate basketball skills that I haven't seen from Freeman. Freeman ought to be really nervous.

I really like Manek but he will struggle in the Big12 this year physically imo. Not close to a redshirt candidate but I think has to plug up 2 holes to consistently get on the floor (build & defense). Seems like he is going to be a heck of a player though.

It's been well documented that if trae listened to his dad he would be at KU or Kentucky. Trae wanted to stay home despite his dad's best efforts to get him to go to a traditional blue blood program. You don't even have to have inside info to know that about his recruitment.

Manek will be a helluva player before he's done here.

I agree with Tiny on Trae. Rayford wanted the big name school.
