Bubble Watch

I don't want to start a big argument tonight but I've asked this several times and haven't gotten an answer.

Surely nobody on here thinks the OU bball women are getting better resources than the men. So how come they were able to get a 3 seed last season and a 4 seed this season? They play in the same facility. I would imagine NIL is comparable for their respective sports. They've signed some good players, but outside of Chavez, nobody any better than what OU signed this past offseason.

So why are they having success? I think coaching. If somebody tells me the women's game has less competitive teams and that is why, I'll at least entertain that. But I don't understand. That's probably not a top 20 roster, talent or NIL, yet there they are as a 4 seed. Help me understand.

What about Clemson and Iowa hoops? I know hoops is big in Wisconsin, but is their roster really that much better than ours? Recruiting services don't think so (HS or Portal).

I think I heard it was mainly one donor that got Chavez to OU, not 100% on that though.

I think there could’ve been an argument about lack of talent the 1st 3 years. This team is way better than the other 4 teams and Moser didn’t get it done.

I don't know if it's deeper than some of the teams we've had.

Yep, Jennie B has a relationship from the Drake days with an older lady who is a billionaire an is a huge supporter.

Her NIL allowed Jennie to land Beers and Chavez.

Imagine how much different things would be if we landed the #1 C in the portal a the nations #1 recruit/PG in back to back years for the men’s team.

What I’m saying, and what I read in Denny’s statement and his interviews with the World and Oklahoman, fixing it is bigger than Moser.

And he’s going to try to fix the other issues first, and then if it’s still the coach, he’ll fix it. Because if he doesn’t fix the other issues the coach won’t matter. And best news of all, he recognizes the other issues are crucial to getting our program back.

That’s what I got out of it.

If we’re one or two games away from being off the bubble, more support and commitment will make a difference.

Because of that drastic mind shift and commitment Joe C never had, even with Moser still here, most optimistic I’ve been about the future of OU basketball since March of 2016.
that is all great and i agree with it and appreciated it .. BUT ..

bringing moser back .. does NOTHING to bring the fan base back .. (in fact it sets that goal back another year at least) ..

Brown isn't going anywhere. His step-father is literally a coach on the staff. They are going to give Brown the Fears role next year. Watch.

I assume Reid was happy with his usage and such this year. I'm not saying we won't have to fight to keep him, but I think he'll stick around.

I don't really care about anybody else. I'd probably keep Rogers (didn't really like what I saw from him though) and Forsythe. The rest can leave.

As for Rogers, I and a few others were right about him, at least this year. He was never billed as an athletic big. A moderately athletic big that cannot shoot is going to need some great skills or instincts to be able to contribute. I'm not sure I see that potential in him.
Reid is going to be hard to keep IMHO .. some one is going to unload on him

You are right. The fan base is gone for another year. And, I fear a lot of donors are gone with them.

But if Roger fired Porter now, OU would have been blamed on the national stage and in the coaching community for lack of administrative support. It would have been harder to attract a quality candidate.

Roger is trying to line up the $ so NIL won't be an excuse next year. Porter will have to sink or swim on his own. If he's successful, it'll be easier for him to get another job. In addition, the pool of available candidates will be bigger next year. Roger is willing to take a short-term PR hit this year for a better hire next year.

Whether the BMDs cooperate with Roger is another question. If I had big $, I wouldn't be giving it to Porter.

Joe C. broke it. Roger is going to try to fix it. It's going to take a while.

i don't buy this .. it would have showed that there is a standard at OU .. Roger could have said . we will give you the resources . but the min standard is making the dance ..

I believe there's still at large the Crown can take obviously OU would be the first invited. It's only a field of 8 this year though. I believe they pay out for NIL on it too.
There are two at larges. Last year there were 16 teams, and none from the ACC or SEC. Five teams came in with sub-.500 records and nine teams declined bids.

Bc girls sports dont get serious money anyway largely bc girls dont watch girls sports like men watch sports

Again, I know you can’t read and like to lie, but I was the first person on the board to say they should have to win their conference tournament.
Sick burn - just a knock at the committee (and your constant bitching) about non-conference metrics and SOS. It clearly didn't matter for Miami OH so why not schedule 13-14 cream puffs and start undefeated.

First game isn't until April 1st. That seems like a long time to keep the guys engaged until a somewhat (besides the $) meaningless tournament.
