I did some math and if we have 10 more games this year(6 reg season, 2 Big 12 tourney, & 2 in NCAA) and he averages 17 PPG and then next year we have te same 34 games(obviously a guess) then he would end up with 1926 putting him at 7th just passing Hollis Price. And that's at 17 PPG which he is currently averaging 17.6. Pretty wild to think he could end up above Hollis if he stays and stays healthy and plays at the same level.

Yes, I was looking at the same calculations. If Buddy comes back for his senior season and OU wins some post season games this year and next, then Buddy has a shot to join rare company in the 2,000 point club; leaving his mark on the OU history books.

A great trivia question would be to ask an OU basketball fan to name the 3 Sooners who averaged over 20 ppg during their career. Everybody would get Wayman and Alvin Adams, but Blake didn't do it (18.8). The late Don Sidle was a great center in the 60's and averaged over 20 during his 3 years on the varsity (freshmen weren't eligible then).

Another Impressive Stat: In the twelve Big-12 Conference games so far this season, Buddy is averaging 19.5 ppg, even though he is the defensive focus of some good coaches and players on the other Big-12 teams.

If Buddy does come back, could he even do better as a senior?

i'm pretty impressed with David Little's number and Chucky Barnett. i mean, before Tubbs and Norm Stewart....the Big 8 was a low scoring league.

even before the 3 point line. i think.

also a huge fan of the DJ, Tim Mac, and Choo teams. impressive numbers there.

but we were scoring a lot.

what is the year we lose to Memphis and Keith Lee? that was a really good Sooner team. round of 8.

85?

Man...OU basketball must've been great in the 80s

Yes, but it didn't start that way. 5 guys on that list used up their eligibility in either '79 or '80. When Coach Tubbs arrived in '80, he had a solid senior (Ray Whitley) and a raw, but talented sophomore (Chucky Barnett)...and that was it. That senior wound up redshirting due to injury, so the '80-'81 roster became the least OU talented team in my lifetime. Little did I know the treat I was in for the rest of the decade :)

BTW, if one were to put together a credible 2-deep All-OU NBA squad, I would have two guys who don't even appear in the 1,000 or 2,000 point club. You could probably figure out who they are.

83-90 Tubbs averaged 28.25 wins per season. OU wasn't just great, they were really fun to watch. The team pressed virtually all game and ran the break every possible opportunity. From February 28, 1987 through December 22, 1990 no one beat OU in the LNC. Duke ended the streak with a five point road win. Duke went on to win or play for the national title that year (I believe). On February 27, 1987, KSU beat OU by one point in Norman. Had OU pulled out that game, you could add another 14 games to the streak. IN 1986 only KU won in Norman. In 1985 and 1984 OU was undefeated in Norman. Had OU beaten KSU and KU they would have gone 7+ years without a home loss.

This wasn't accomplished playing against weak competition. The Big 8 was really good (one year OU, Missouri and KU were ranked 1, 2 and 3 in the polls for a couple of weeks, OU beat Missouri and KU in Norman during that time period if I recall correctly) and OU played UNLV, Arizona, Pitt, Texas and others during that stretch. Arizona and UNLV were two of the best teams in the country during that time period.

Anthony Bowie and ??

Another reason to stay. Pass Hollis Price and maybe Ryan Minor. It will be tough to pass Minor but if Hield gets some post season games, He can do it.

Anthony Bowie and ??

Clifford Ray. He would back up Alvan Adams at center. He obviously didn't score much at OU, but he may have had the highest basketball IQ of any Sooner. He also was the starting center on an NBA Championship team ('75 Golden State Warriors).

Crazy thing about BG, if you double his two-year total, he's still short of WWT.

:eek:ldwt356:

Yea, but i was also accounting for some escalation as a jr and sr to get there. But waymen did it in 3 years which i don't see ever being matched
