Cousins should get to 1k by Conference play. How many times have we 2 1000 point scorers on the same team at the same time?

McGhee and Price did it. Blaylock and King, Webster and Brent Price, Bobby Jack and Scott Martin, McCalister and Tisdale probably so. I'm not sure exactly when McCalister got over 1k coulda been early his JR year. But McAlister and Choo are obviously the only 2 in the 2k club/same time.

Good work Traveler. I enjoy seeing your detailed posts. Things I notice:

1. Buddy about to pass the late Don Sidle maybe next game. Great player. Made 1st team AA and averaged over 20 ppg at OU.

2. Buddy could/should get to 2000 points.

3. Isaiah should get to 1000 points in Hawaii.

4. Ryan and Jordan could both get to 1000 points by the end of the season.

I post this in another thread, but I think Buddy should get to top 5 all time by the end of the season and I predict that one day we'll hang his jersey from the rafters.

Depends on how many more games he'll play but 4th looks like a near lock.

I wouldn't go quite that far. He has to average 20 ppg the rest of the way to get there, assuming a couple games in each tourney. I expect his scoring average to go down a bit in conference play.
6th seems to certainly be a lock though, and 4 or 5 are definite possibilities.

Needs to get around 570 points over roughly 30 games. It could be a few more or few less than that. So that's 19 points a game. It does also depend on how many games we play. I expect around 35 give or take a couple. A final 4/championship game run may get him close to the top 3.

Agreed. If he averages 17 ppg through the regular season, he'll pass HP and take over the #7 spot. That would put him in position to jump over Minor and possibly King in the post season.

In view of the fact that the top twelve on this list were all in the 70s or earlier, that's quite an accomplishment.

Pledger and Fitzgerald did it.

Also important to note that Buddy missed a decent chunk of games at the end of his freshman year. Not really that big of a deal, but his point total could certainly be higher if not for that

I think it's also worth noting that Buddy played in what I'd call the "dead ball" era of college basketball. The overall decline in offense has been well-documented and resulted in a slew of rule changes to try to fix the problem.

So we might have four 1,000 point scorers on this team by the end of the year. That's nuts.

It's really remarkable that, 7 games in, Isaiah has already outscored his freshman year self.

It is possible that Woodard and Spangler could break 1,000 by the NCAA Tournament.

A few thoughts on the updated scoring list. Many thanks to Traveler for putting it together.

1. WWT. Man, what a stud.

2. Alvan Adams. Exceptionally skilled.

3. Would have loved to witness the 1979 Big 8 Champs in action. Featured six different guys (Whitley, Carrabine, Stotts, Curry, Beal, McCullough) who would go on to score over 1,000 points in their Sooner careers. Fell victim to Larry Bird's Sycamores in the sweet 16. I've been told on many occasions that Legend got away with murder that afternoon.

4. I see no 1991 beside the name of Damon Patterson, and it never fails to tick me off.

5. The late, great Lester Lane. I've chatted with his widow several times over the years. Very sweet lady. The untimely passings of he and Jim Mackenzie are the all-time Sooner "What If's".

6. I know who Don Sidle is. Wish I could've seen him play.

7. Jeff Webster became the #2 all-time scorer just a couple of years ago. Some technicality allowed them to count his scoring totals from his abridged redshirt campaign in the fall of 1989 or something like that.

8. Chucky Barnett!

9. I don't see 1988, 1989 or 1990 beside Brent Price, and I get sick to my stomach.

10. Next year could be quite an adventure.

My pleasure. I enjoy putting these lists together. It is just a bit of effort to copy the data from the OU Basketball Press Guide (in this case). I am sometimes driven by my poor memory, as putting these lists on paper helps me bring back some good memories.

3. It will be interesting to see which underclassmen on the current team will eventually become 1,000 point scorers in their OU careers. Some of these youngsters will step up and become scorers next season.

10. Adventures can be fun.

OU has a maximum of 30 games remaining, although 28 or so is probably a more realistic number (28 would represent 7 post season games, which would be a CCG appearance and an elite 8 in the NCAA).

At 28 games remaining, assuming no injuries, he's a foregone conclusion to pass Hollis. He'd need a shade over 15 a game to pass Ryan Minor, which also seems like a slam dunk. 17.5 to pass Stacey King, and about 20.5 to pass Choo, which would be the last name he'd have a realistic shot at getting to. It would take 27 a game to reach Tim Mcalister, which just isnt' goign to happen.

Math obviously changes is if bow out of the postseason early, or advance to a final four or title game.

Sperry, I think you're missing a few in the maximum amount of games left:

NON-CONFERENCE
1 - Creighton
3 - Diamond Head Classic
1 - LSU

CONFERENCE:
18

BIG 12 TOURNAMENT:
3 (maximum)

NCAA TOURNAMENT:
6 (maximum)

TOTAL:
32

You'e right. When I looked at the schedule, it didn't indicate the two additional games in that nonsense Hawaii tournament. That would put my most likely estimate at 30 games remaining, and would change hte math rather significantly.

That would put him at very likely in my estimation to pass Choo, and still not much chance at McAlister (although it starts to become reachable if we make the NCAA championship game).

Getting up to 2nd is possible if he puts up great numbers all the way to a final four run. But it's not very likely.
