Buzz 10-year deal from MU

Re: MU offering 10-year deal to Buzz

Doesn't mean he has to accept.

That's where you're wrong seniorsooner. They currently have him tied up to railroad tracks with only an hour to agree to sign before a STEAMING LOCOMOTIVE runs over him.

Obviously, it's up to Soonerman and Boomerboy to save the day.

My thoughts

If he wants to be here he will come, i think OU is prepared to offer him a very solid deal...just depends on where he sees his future...

That'd be peachy if Buzz wants to stay there for 10 years.

Re: MU offering 10-year deal to Buzz

Did we really expect Marquette to just sit there and not offer any sort of contract extension to try to get him to stay?

Re: MU offering 10-year deal to Buzz

10 years is job security rarely seen in this business. He has recruits and a team in place. He would have to want this job in order to leave that on the table.

Agreed that this doesn't change much. The decision before was not as much about money as it was about where he could be "at home" for the best years of his career.

I think Buzz finds security in winning and in doing his job. He just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who feels like he needs to lock up a long contract just in case he has a few bad years. I think he doesn't plan on having bad years.

Are the buy-outs often tied to years remaining on a contract? What I mean is, if Capel was fired next year instead of this year, would our buy-out have been less?

Yes, Capel's would have.

Well, I think giving anybody, save the Coach K types, a 10 year contract is ridiculous.

A 10 year deal if he likes it there is great but I suspect the buyout is the protection MU is reaching for. A ten-year buyout contract would inhibit Buzz from taking a Duke,UNC, his alltime favorite,Texas and such. It gets so negotiating here. I would take if I was him as long as I got about 5 schools exclude. I have been pessimistic about Buzz from day one. Boyle or Jones seem more likely. Personally we could do worse than those guys. The contracts on these things are so complex. If you pay the coach an average price you can't have a big buyout. If you pay a big price then the coach should be prepared to lose some flexibility. But for OU to sign Buzz our best bet is give him a 7 year deal and no buyout. Let him rebuild the program at the worst. We are always going to lose coaches to big schools that are top tier ones.

Re: MU offering 10-year deal to Buzz

This is probably about as true as that 3.8 million buyout.

Right now, I don't know what to believe. There is smoke though, so Buzz has definitely been contacted.

Just like Jeff Capel had 4 more years of job security?

Exactly.

BTW, Buzz is not worth a 10-year deal.

Re: MU offering 10-year deal to Buzz

Job security means very little in this business. As we have seen with Jeff Capel. Nobody would have seen thsi coming with Capel a year and a half ago.

For some reason Buzz is really interested in the OU job. It could be that in the middle of the season when the "Fire Buzz" signs were in the arena, he did not get a lot of warm fuzzy reassurances from Marquette's AD.

It is like the girl who hears rumor her boyfriend is going to break up with her and the boyfriend is silent. Then the quarterback asks her to the prom. All of the sudden the boyfriend treats her like a queen. Usually, that just doesn't work.
