A news show via CNN, Sat nite was about UCONN's academics related to BB. Lot of sounds bites with the U Prez but Calhoun was never on camera. Probably didn't have the guts to get on tv.
Looks like he's bigger than anything on the campus. His graduation rate is pitiful. Can not understand how his teams have never been on probation.
The situation there is a mess but nobody has the guts to dump him.

I wish someone could explain to me how Kentucky isn't going to be slammed by that rule.

Neither of those teams got caught making impermissable phone calls to recruits.

And heaven knows phone calls are much more important than Fed-ex envelopes full of money or academic fraud. :facepalm

Apparently UK is making sure the kids are "in good academic standing" when they leave. That is what the rule says. As long as the kids are passing classes, and are where they should be academically (progress) when they leave, it doesn't hurt the school.

It looks like the "rules" were written for Kentucky's benefit.
I suppose the two-and doners like Jones and Lamb were good students.
The ones-and-dones, you'll never really know.

Why? They still have to take a decent class load, and pass those classes for two semesters. Is the rule perfect? Probably not, but it keeps schools from bringing kids in, and having them do nothing for a year, and not get penalized.

I would like to see their class schedule especially for the spring semester.

I'm sure it's loaded with easy classes.

But so was mine as a college freshman.

Mine wasn't and I played college baseball. I thought you had to take so many hours that counted towards an actual degree, even as a freshmen? At least on some path, granted many freshmen don't know what their major is but I thought the NCAA changed that.

That doesn't take into effect until later on in their collegiate career. What Kentucky is doing is within the rules that the NCAA and NBA have mandated. Not sure why everyone is in a fuss about this, would rather have these kids playing college for 1-2 years than toiling overseas or in the D-League. Quitting college after one or two years to pursue a dream should not be looked down upon.

I'd rather they go to D league or overseas. I don't think the NCAA should be the NBA's minor league system.

All gen eds like english government, a basic math, a basic science, and art count as core classes required for any degree that freshmen can take. as long as you make cs in 6 hours while enrolled in 12 hours you are golden by the NCAA rules.
