Can't beat bad officiating

the only call I really have a beef with is at the end of regulation when Smart wildly fell and lost the ball and some how the ref called a foul on Cam. Without that call the game is basically over.

Yep that was a terrible call.......

There's a reason that the home team wins such an overwhelming majority of games in conference, and it's because the home team gets all the calls.

For those complaining about the officiating, yes it was very bad. However, it's basically what happens every time a team goes on the road, it's not unique to OU or anyone else. Really a shame, because it makes college basketball tough to watch.

I would agree with this 100%. I wish there were some way to fix it. If the home crowd can give their team an advantage by being so loud it disrupts their opponent, good for them. But the officials shouldn't let it affect them like it does.

Home team will get calls in that kind of environment, didn't think it was grossly towards OSU as they were being the aggressors in that type of officiated game.

I agree. It was the worst call and a close second was the foul on the Nash dunk. I guess the foul was on Hornbeak, but that was atrocious too.

Other than these 2 calls, I didn't have a problem with the officiating. I disagree with the OP about the non-call on Grooms turnover. If Grooms wasn't trying to be fancy and if he'd protected the ball and that same thing occurs then maybe he gets the call.

They actually let the 2 teams play, which was good for the fans. It was a very entertaining game.

I remember those poor calls the same as Sky, but obviously since I root for OU I have a tendency to remember the calls that negatively impact my team, and not the other way around.

That being said, we had a chance to win the game at the end, and if it weren't for a few miscues we would have. The loss is not on the officials.

But they certainly didn't help.

As a Sooner fan, it is my job to notice the bad calls against the Sooners. It is up to the Pokes to do their job and with all the booing and yelling they did not like the officials either.

But the Flagrant One called on Osby was ridiculous.

Another one of the and one calls toward the end of the game when we left Nash I believe open for a dunk. There couldn't have been a Sooner in arm's length of him.

The flagrant was a bad call. It should have been a foul but not a flagrant foul. If I remember correctly, they didn't convert on the possession though so no big deal.

The announcers were wrong about the call when they said it was a flagrant one. The official called an intentional on Osby, not a flagrant one. If the announcers would take the time to study the rule book with graphics showing the various signals officials use, they would know that was the call. It was an intentional because Romero (in the eyes of the official) did not play the ball. I watched the replay and IMO it was a good call.

As for the officiating, there were some bad calls and no calls both ways. Osby got fouled on two drives in the first half that weren't called. On the other hand, Pledger could have easily picked up two offensive fouls with his should lean push-off to create space for a couple of shots, one in the first half and another in the second. As someone has already pointed out, M'Baye's fifth foul was an "anticipation" call, something every coach hates to see and every official should try to avoid. In other words, it was indeed a bad call!

Did the officials cost OU the game? Not in my opinion. I could point to a number of missed opportunities that were far worse than the officiating.

Only fouls (or no-calls) I had a problem with were the player rolling under Pledger on the loose ball in our half of the floor and Smart falling down on the offensive rebound...Smart definitely slipped on his own. Tough for me to be too mad at Smart getting that call though, because we had just forced Brown into an awful shot with his heels on the 3pt line and we give up a long rebound to their most important player. Situation could have easily been avoided.

Intentional foul (not a flagarant) was probably the correct call, even though it sucks it went against us. Osby's left arm is on his shoulder and he yanks down. The tug might not have been intentional, but tough to argue with.

OU had their chance to win, some really poor offensive possessions and allowing Nash to dunk by himself wide open (twice) cost us the game. Team played really well, no shame in that loss at all.

I thought the calls evened out overall. Just couldn't get a stop down the stretch to win a ball game unfortunately. Wish OU had a closer that could create. It was a great/exciting game. I hope they're ready to play Wed and can finish with wins they should win. I like this team and their toughness, just couldn't close tonight.

A foul against Smart late was a bad call. He may have got bumped but my problem with the call was that they gave him NBA continuation. He took a step to the right after the bump and then turned back to shoot. It should have been a foul on the floor if a foul at all.

I think we lost the game when we got 11 up and gave up 9 strait points without any semblence of an offense. Had we extended the lead or even held fast we win the game.

We played solid ball against a very solid team with some marquis stars. We should finish OK but Iowa State, Texas and Baylor will be tough.

I didn't see the OU game, but I can sympathize. MU got jobbed today in Arkansas.

Poor officiating is an epidemic in college basketball. With as much money as the sport generates, you'd think they could find a way to improve this.

I'm not saying we played perfect, and obviously oswho made some big plays and deserves credit for a hard-fought game. But I feel the aggies too frequently got bailed out with calls and non-calls, that the officials played too large a role in the outcome.

I cited several specific examples of calls that I felt were questionable, and it's interesting to note that most of the plays I mentioned have also been cited as bad calls by others in this thread.

And kc, fans complain about officiating everywhere. It's not just an okc thing. You ate the broken Record old man
