With the case of Coach Capel I do believe at first he was the young and up coming of the what young kids where looking for at OU. In steps Blake, and gives him the talent and the ability to take the program to greater heights. Problem was he had become his own worse enemy. He become obsessed with getting the Blake's of the world and forgot what had gotten to the elite eight. Character!!! He took the advice from his recruiters and figured that he could take on these kids that had issues and change them. He paid a dear price for that. He learned a hard listen from this and could never recover here because, he had lost the fan base and above all lost the trust of the bosses. Coach Capel will be much better from this at his next job, I just wish he would have learned that lesson early enough to get us back to be good..

Coach Capel was doomed from the first time he stepped on campus and I will tell you how and this was from me and a major college basketball coach that I know and talk to on a weekly basis...Capel first stepped on campus and was played basketball with the player I dont know if anybody remembers this or not...he tried to be the players friends and related to them...in major college basketball you can NOT do this, you have to be a general and take charge or the kids or egos will eventually walk all over you, of course the players are going to defend a coach like that, but are they going to take you serious NO are they going to listen to you as much NO, you can not be their best friend and a coach at this level, NJCAA or NAIA yes but not Division I basketball when its about wins

Absolutely ver batim what Kevin Bookout told me.

Two issues for Capel:

#1 He didn't have a system.

#2 He tried too hard to be a player's coach.
