Capel to get 2 more years?

And you, Jesse, state over and over and over again that you think Capel should be let go, it's annoying as ****.

I want us to win, I really don't give a **** who the coach is. I'm down to give Capel another year because I think he deserves it, but I won't go screaming and crying if he isn't back, I can, unlike you, see the other side of the argument.

No, I see the other side of the argument. I do. I just turned my "fire capel switch" on recently. My second school of choice is Duke and I always liked the way Capel played the game. His intensity was, well, intense. I wanted to support him here at OU, but he's just not getting it done and that's the personal decision I've arrived at. IMO, I think OU should let him go now (end of year) and find someone else even if it means a rebuilding job. I will preface all the above by saying that I did not want OU to hire him in the first place. I don't like Duke players as coaches. BUT when OU made their choice I got behind him just like everyone else.

Anyways, I can see the point from the pro-Capel crowd that thinks he can turn it around. It's just that my opinion of Capel has turned me a little bitter towards the OU brass. It feels like they don't care about OU bball. That's frustrating to a fan. Like some have said, it's Blake-like. Except, apparently, we're actually in 1997 and not 1998. So some of us fans see the writing on the wall...which is...The firing of Capel is inevitable and needs to happen Sooner than later for OU to get their program back. You guys that are still supporting Capel are stuck in 1997 cheering for Blake (Capel) to turn it around. You'll see. And just because I think Capel is going to fall flat on his face again next year, it doesn't mean I want it to happen. Just the way it seems.

John Blake and Jeff Capel should never be compared, ever. Actually, I refuse to argue with someone who does compare the two.

I think we all want the same thing, OU to win, I'll leave it at that.

Now that is a sensible post!!!!:clap:clap

It's pretty easy making comparisons between the two

I can't believe some of you think Capel is doing an amazing job.

NO ONE has said that...not one.

I believe just as jmizz does. I support the players/coach until it is decided they must leave, then I support the new players/coach. I believe that is the definition of "fan"...not someone who makes it their life to sit around and CONSTANTLY bash players/coach.

HOLY COW!!!! I'm glad jmizz quoted you, jesse. That's ALL anyone is saying.

Let me give the naysayers an example. What if "we" got on here EVERY DAY, and on EVERY thread and constantly said, "Capel is a much better coach than Sampson.", "Capel is the best coach OU's EVER had.", "Capel is the number one recruiter in the country.", "Capel's Xs and Os are unmatched.". I only used those extreme examples because A LOT of the posts on the other side go to the extreme (I think even the people posting it would agree it's gone to the extreme). If "we" posted that every day on every thread, you guys would be losing your minds.

Both sentences I bolded explain my opinion to a "T".

I am old enough to remember when OU stayed home every year once the Big 8 tourney was over. I enjoyed the many years of going to postseason play, even playing in the NIT because it's a lot better than turning on the TV and watching KU, Texas, or osu play while we are in baseball season (nothing against baseball...I'm a huge college baseball fan, too).

After we won the 4 conference games, I thought things were improving, but since that time we seem to have taken a step back as we always do in February under Capel. Our defense is horrible and our offense isn't much better. I, like Jessie, don't think even Superman Osby can turn this program around and am afraid we are looking at becoming the Arkansas of the Big 12. They have now gone thru 2 unsuccessful coaches and are going for a 3rd, except they have an NC in the last 20 years, and 2 other final 4 appearances.

Osby spent 2 years at a mid level SEC school and averaged 4 points and 2 or 3 rebounds a game over 2 years in about 12 minutes a game. If he can't really crack a mid level SEC lineup through 2 years how is he a star in a Big 12 school? The SEC has been horrible in basketball the last couple of years.

This is what is preventing me from buying into the hype that is Osby.

I also think it's really unfair of Capel to have put so much hype into Osby because Capel's career is dependent on Osby's play. That's a lot of weight on a 21 year old kid.

don't know the circumstances but those are recent numbers for an underclassman only geting 12 a game.

I wouldn't disagree. But that's not the type of hype he's getting from this program right now. If he were that good as this hype why did he play 12 minutes a game?

Just look at the freshmen in the recent history that have played a lot. The guys in the Big 12 that are absolute stars in the past as freshman played a lot. Cam Clark is an example this year for OU. But Blake Griffin, Beasley, Durant are better examples of guys that played a ton as freshmen.

i don't know. maybe he was a head case. didn't know the system. i don't know the circumstances. I just know what capel and the players have said.

This much we can assume...Osby is not better than Jarvis Varnado, Kodi Augustus and/or Ravern Johnson. At least he wasn't in 09-10.

Side note: Why hasn't Miss St fired Stansbury yet?

Epke Udoh averaged like 5 and 5 at Michigan in 2 years...not saying he IS Udoh, but it kind of proves stats don't always tell the story. With that said, I'm going to wait and see what he CAN do...

That is exactly who I thought about. Not to mention that Sooners need look no further than one Nate Carter to see a surprise player who had shown no signs of putting up the numbers he ended up with.......

MSU may not have been a good fit for Osby, who knows????
