Capel to get 2 more years?

It's just gotten confusing. Everyone says the team is going to completely suck becuase we have no talent, then they are "somewhat" right and then blame the coach. Then you throw in how great Baylor, oSu and Tech were supposed to be based on their talent, but not producing and it gets even more confusing.

I tried to make it simple above, Capel is likely getting at least next year and nobody here has any say in it, but its the internet's man, no making any sense. If any fan base should be pissed, it should be Baylor, TT or oSu's...talk about a crappy job of coaching or character evaluation.

I said something similar a few weeks ago and, well, here's what it got me...http://ouhoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19611&highlight=excuse

OU fans along with baylor, tt or osu should all be pissed. No fan base should accept losing. Osu and baylor atleast have talented players coming in.

Great minds think alike, lol!

Honestly, I just think there is a contingent that want Capel gone no matter what and there is just no getting through to them that he is getting another year at least, but they get their rocks off on being "realists" without actually dealing with reality.

Next season?

Thought they had talented players coming in or returning this season; or did I miss the posts every other day about that on here.

I think us "realists" realize that he's coming back. That still doesn't make it the right decision. We'd like to look forward to being better than mediocre and at this point, it looks to be about the same going into next year. Sorry that we can't all be positive while we're losing. I'm still waiting for HARD FACTS that we'll be improved next year.

You are looking for HARD FACTS in predicting the future? Call Ms. Cleo I guess. But I just listed three teams that were widely pimped on this board as being good this season and they haven't been. I guess I could do a cut and paste job on star ratings, high school accolades or something, but we've seen how accurate those can be.

Here is the HARD FACT, barring something completely unexpected, Coach Capel will be here for at least next year no matter how many threads come up on here whining about him or the team or the current state of the program. It is what it is, whether you like it, don't like it, think that Sampson was better or that OU basketball deserves better or whatever reason anybody comes up with.

It is what it is, and no amount of bandwidth, eloquent statements about the Tubbs years, or how hard Sampson teams played, or how crappy TMG or Tiny were or how all Duke guys can't coach or how great a recruiting class team [INSERT HERE] is bringing in is going to make a shred of difference. I question any "realist" who would continue to bang their head against a brick wall and wonder why they are the ones bleeding. Unfortunately, it is this board that is really hemorrhaging, over an issue that is a non-issue...Capel is almost 100% a lock to be coming back....nobody said you had to be happy, excited or anything about it, but my goodness, and not saying you specifically its gotten to the point where people want this team to fail so they can be "right". It is sort of disturbing.

I think Joe C. should give him more years. How could anyone know that all of our so called Mcdonalds All-Americans were going to jump ship.

Very good points. This losing is bringing the out worst fan in a lot of us, myself definitely included. Having played bball since I was 5 years old, all I want is competitive, winning basketball. Yes the team is trying but are they improving? Some will say yes, but I don't see it, at least in droves. Fitz came into the season not rebounding and is exiting the season in the same fashion, Pledger doesn't seem to be much improved from the opening tip, Clark, while talented, hasn't seemed to improve significantly, Blair played bad in the early games and has played poor as recent as the A&M game, Neal has played well but has played poorly too, Newell mostly looks lost out there, C.J./Nick aren't providing much of anything....Goff isn't going to change our outcomes too much, on assumption. Osby is going to be the guy and we don't even know if can give us what Cade gave us...

I just think us fans are split on what we see as improvement. Again, I, like others, don't see a whole lot of improvement...maybe just status quo. Some of you guys, not saying it's bad, think the team does a 180 next season.

One thing I've noticed on this board (myself included) is that no one is ever wrong and there's no middle ground. Like I stated earlier, I don't care who is coaching necessarily, as long as the team plays hard, has discipline, a gameplan, intelligence and competes for the Big 12. Getting to the Elite Eight/Final Four is just that much sweeter. I'd support Capel 100% if I felt like he wasn't in over his head. Sadly, that's the way half the fanbase feels.

Oh and we were just discussing other team's projected rosters...it's useless but I thought that was the point of a message board. I don't think anyone should tell people what to say or not say.

So I pose this question...Can you name me 1 thing from each player that has improved from the beginning to the end? Sell me on this "improvement"

I can do you one better, an entire team with plenty of reasons to quit and a lack of experience hasn't...as opposed to a team with plenty of talent and no reasons to quit did. We may have gone and gotten a bunch of scrubs at the last minute in recruiting, but they are scrubs with heart. On paper we may well have the worst group of talent in the B12, but we aren't in last place, and I give the players and the coach credit for that. Get Osby to produce, get Fitz to get stronger now that he is leaner, and get guys to buy into pride in the program and we "might" improve next season "as-is". Who knows, with a little positivity around the program from the fanbase, we might even get lucky and land a guy that can help late.

You are correct that the Tubbs years were fun, the Sampson teams played hard and Duke guys cannot coach. Capel is an issue on this message board. I do not think people want this team to fail they just want so hope for the future.

My advice to you all is buy women's season tickets. They are entertaining and they fight hard and yeah they aren't where they were a couple of seasons ago, but that game Sunday was really good entertainment.

The women you get your money's worth. The men --- right now who really gives a crap about them? Especially with the NCAA bomb falling down on us before next season.

According to chewy, who has been right way more than not,his sources say it's 50/50 whether Capel is back. Now, a friend of mine says 2 more years is what capel has told people close to him is what he's been promised.

I would probably say chewy is closest to the truth because my friend has been wrong on a few things in the past, and I can't remember the last time chewy was wrong.

Real Sooners "give a crap" about the men, (OU students) who are working their butts off! I care. Guys that are most likely Sooners for life.

Degree or no degree, no one has to settle for mediocrity. That's a personal decision. "Real Sooners"? Define.

If you do not have a passion for the University as a whole, you are not a true Sooner, just a bandwagon fan.

Well I guess there's only about 4,000-5,000 "Real Sooners" left. You guys enjoy that. I'll support OU, but not Capel.
