CBS Sports: Nine NCAA Tourney Teams That Won’t Make It Back

I think OU could if the players and coaches bring their best. Even with that wouldn't hurt to catch some breaks on the way.

Even with better D, have to find some firepower to make up for Trae's lost points, forgetting his lack of D.

Last year OU scored 85pt/gm and gave up 82pt/gm. Trae, Lattin, McGusty, & Shepherd accounted for roughly 68 points with points and assists.

So let's say OU gives up 72 points a game this year after losing their 2 worst defenders and emphasizing defense. So they have to account for about 58 points to have a similar season. (I know a lot more goes into this)

Calixte - 20 points
Reynolds - 14 points
Bienemy - 10 points
Kuath - 3 points
Doolittle - 8 points (added)
James - 5 points (added)
McNease - 5 points (added)
Manek - 5 points (added)
Odomes- 2 points (added)

That totals up to 72 points added so even if I overshot you still have room to work with.

I laughed because that's what I first thought. However, I think he's mixing PPG with points generated from assists. If Calixte scores 10 PPG and dishes out 5 APG, that accounts for 20 points...at least that's what I think he's referring to.

That’s the way I see it too. Calixte has a career average of just over 13 ppg. I think be can be counted on for 7 to 8 points, because he won’t have to score as much as OU’s floor leader. James averaged 12 ppg last year. I’ll be shocked if his average doesn’t increase a little this season.

I think Manek will lead the team in scoring at around 15 ppg. He’s bigger and stronger and more experienced this year, which will make him harder to handle inside. He also has the potential to be our best three point shooter.

I’ll be disappointed if Muni doesn’t average in double figures at around 12 ppg. Odomes should at least maintain his average of 7 ppg, but he could easily improve that to 10 or more. Doolittle is the unknown. If he returns to form, his freshman average of 9 or more is not out of the question. Bieniemy is another unknown, mainly because he’s a freshman. He can score, though, so I believe he will contribute to some degree.

If this group of players manages to average where I think they should be, that will give us sound 65 ppg, with the potential for more. I think adding another 10 for Freeman, Reynolds, Kauth and Polla is fairly conservative.

But you can't add up points scored for assist.

Yes thank you that's what I was talking about. Each assist is worth about 2.2-2.3 points.

How's that?

It can work for one player, but if you start doing it for multiple players you are double counting. An alley oop from Trae to Lattin counts as two for Lattin and then you're giving Trae two for the assist.

I took away more than double points when I talked about what OU lost because assists also go to 3s & and 1s. It's not an exact science it was just something I thought of.

Sometimes a guy gets a weak assist because his teammate makes a great play or shot after the pass. Also guys get easy points because someone makes a great play & pass. It also doesn't include hockey assists, even though we didn't lose anybody who got hockey assists.
