Over this past weekend, Oklahoma entertained one to the top players in the state, CJ Cole of Sperry Oklahoma. Cole, who averages 26pts per game at 4a Sperry High, is also a great Student with a 4.0 GPA and a whopping 32 on his ACT. OKHoops caught up with Cole's dad about his visit.

C.J. Cole, the 6 foot 7 forward out of Sperry, Oklahoma has been a hot recruit as of late. The OKHoops Top 20 2012 forward is a true student athlete. He averaged 26 points per game last year and also excels in the classroom, with a 4.0 GPA and a score of 32 on the ACT.

Recently the physical forward went on an unofficial visit to Oklahoma to meet with the coaching staff and take in the Ball St. vs. Oklahoma football game.

“The OU visit went really well. C.J. got a chance to see the facilities and it was a great overall visit. I haven’t gotten a chance to talk much to CJ about it but we’re weighing our options and talking to coaches now. It’s going to be a big decision,” said Chad Cole, C.J.’s father, about his sons’ college options.

The elder Cole also praised the (OU) coaching staff and stated he anticipates another visit before his son makes a decision. Cole has offers from Drake and Davidson along with interest from Butler and Oral Roberts.

Cole will take the next few weeks to weigh his options about attending Oklahoma on a likely academic scholarship and being a member of the Sooners or takings athletic scholarships with Drake, Davidson or one of the countless D2 schools that have offered him a scholarship. Also, Cornell of the Ivy League has also extended Cole an offer. Of course Ivy League institutions do not have full ride athletic scholarship.

Recently, Cole was a participant at OKHoops.com's Exposure Combine in Bixby Oklahoma where he was one of the top players at the camp. The 2012 Player of the Year candidate has the ability to potentially play for the Sooners down the line, to go along with being a great student athlete. Cole was recently featured by Sam Duren in one of the slamtdunk highlight reels at the camp labeled "OKHoops Dunkage Vol. 1."

As much as I love OU, I think if I were in Cole's position, it'd be tough to walk on at OU and probably never get many minutes, vs going to somewhere like Cornell, where not only will he get an Ivy League education for free (or close to it), but he'd also have a good chance of playing a lot of minutes.

I certainly hope we (OU) get him if that is what he wants though.

Ivy League doesn't have athletic scholorships. He could probably get one of those National Merit Scholarships at OU.

Even if he got an academic scholarship to Cornell, it would probably only be a partial scholarship. His parents would probably have to pay as much or more than it would cost for him to go to OU without a scholarship.

While they don't give athletic scholarships they give athletes an academic scholarship...frankly it is just a matter of semantics. A guy I used to work with went to Brown and was recruited to play hockey...he got a full ride academic scholarship (tuition, books, room and board).

That is kind of what I was thinking.

Ivy League schools don't give academic scholarships either. Any money they give out is based on the financial needs of the student. None is based on academic or athletic prowess.

Don't listen to these guys CJ. Come to OU. Be the next Dominique Whaley.
