CJ Noland CB’d to OU

Meyer with not the best evaluation of Noland:

"Has a stocky and strong build. Not overly athletic but plays with power. Has a nice shooting stroke and can bully his way to the bucket. Good ball handler but not necessarily a blow by guy. Has a nice pull up jumper. Can deliver an accurate pass. Not much of a rebounder. Has strength on defense but has room to improve in terms of lateral quickness."

So he's a relative un-athletic guard with little burst or lateral quickness that can't rebound. Puzzling. Hopefully he's one of those guys that outplays the expectations. Like that he's got some strength that could lend to some bully ball if he needs to.

Scrolling thru the roster, not sure who would be on hot seat to leave. ISSANZA?

I know there's always somebody, but same as you I'm having trouble identifying who it would be. OU loses so many seniors that playing time should be ample to come by the next year.

2021
Harmon/Gibson
Gibson/Williams/Phipps
Reaves/Williams/Hill
Manek/Iwuakor/Hill
Kur/Iwuakor/Issanza

2022
Harmon/Gibson/Cortes
Gibson/Phipps/Harkless
Hill/Harkless/O'Garro
Collins/Hill/Garang
Iwuakor/Issanza

Everyone who doesn't make the 10 man this year has a good shot at it next year. But yeah my guess would be Garang or Issanze if one of them doesn't improve over the course of the year.

I hope not. We sure are recruiting alot of guards. We need to keep some height. But, I guess if neither emerges by the end of this year, they're a good candidate to replace.

Kruger sure redshirts alot of guys. It would be nice if he started hitting on redshirt player development like Scott Drew. Yeah, I said it..

Maybe if he started recruiting some basketball players instead of "athletes" that we have to spend time teaching the basic principles of play.

Ding, ding, ding.

And I'm just putting this on record, I'm not very high on Noland. Another offensively challenged player with a pretty low ceiling IN MY OPINION.

Interesting. How many times have you seen him play?

I'm excited about Noland.

He looks like he has pretty good handles with both hands and can get to the bucket. He seems to be a heavier/muscular type guy so I am wondering about his hops and lateral quickness. Also, I haven't found any video of any behind the arc prowess. Anybody have any? Does he have the ability to shoot? Important for a guard..

Isn’t that a good thing? You can’t play 13 guys.

I didn't say it was good or bad I was just pointing it out. And hoping that said players come out of the redshirts as contributors..

Yeah at least these projects have great height, length, & athleticism. Some of the past 11-13 men were never going to contribute even if they developed.

Of course, if he had signed with Kelvin, you would have said he was exactly the type of guy we need in our program.

A lot lately. What will amount to half of the '20 class and 40% of the class the year before.

Many think if you have to redshirt a player, you have to wonder if theyre even worth taking these days.. obviously there are some exceptions like late bloomers or guys with injuries.

Why wouldn’t you redshirt your 11-13 guys? Unless it was a CJ Cole type.
