Clock Rule

So watching as much ball as i do, I can't help but notice that at some schools they stop the clock under 1 after a made hoop, and some don't. What is the rule, and why can't everyone be the same? It's a pretty important difference in close games...

They don't in the first half. They do in the second half.

Which is why you do not want to wait until the 5 second mark to start your play at the end of the first half. Start it with 10 and then even if you score on the first shot, the other guys probably won't get it inbounded until it's too late to do more than heave it.
