"No question. It would be exciting to open up places like California," said OU men's basketball coach Jeff Capel. "We'd get to go out and play West Coast teams, so that opens us up to different recruiting areas that may have been tougher to get into. There is also the attraction of going to different venues. Going to L.A., going to Seattle, going to Oregon, Arizona and some pretty nice places all of a sudden. I think that would be exciting for kids."
Capel acknowledged the Big 12's long list of hoops accomplishments — Final Fours, national players of the year, NBA lottery picks — but said, simply, "sometimes change is inevitable. You have to be prepared for it and stay ahead of the curve so you don't get left behind."
