Kelvin did a good job for OU. We all know that. I'm appreciative of what he accomplished on the court. But, he was well past his "sell by date" when he left. Then he had a pretty short self life on his next stop.
I don't wish him bad. But, I would think it quite unlikely that he would duplicate his OU success at Houston.

Most of what you stated in that first paragraph was unnecessary at the very least. The OU basketball program prospered under Coach Sampson, and most Sooner fans are very appreciative of what he did for the program and the university during his tenure. Indiana fans never wanted him in the first place and would have found a way to run him off even if that "texting" thing had not given them the opportunity they wanted.
Equating Kelvin's tenure at OU to food spoiling on a shelf is quite tacky, and in my opinion, a little beneath a poster of your stature.
I'm not above tacky and I was trying to be kind. See if this fits for you better. Kelvin out stayed his welcome. He got us on probation as well as his next stop. He received a 5 yr sanction.
I'm glad Kelvin came to OU. I'm glad he is gone. I don't think there is any chance he gets much of anything done at Houston. His time has passed.

Had Kelvin not left OU, our next 3-7 years would have been more like the Hollis years, than any of the other OU/Kelvin years. He was getting ready to bump us up another level. Too bad we didn't get to find out what those years would have looked like.
I'd take him back right now
It is not surprising and it is no skin off my nose that Kelvin still has his supporters. He did keep the program in pretty good shape.
What I am saying is that before he left Kelvin had lost the support of many prominent boosters and the confidence of the administration.
While it is a nice sentiment that some fans would like to have him back, the people that would actually make the decision on that, would have no part of him. My sympathies just happen to lie with that group.

I do see your point and mostly agree with you, Gary. But, I disagree strongly that Kelvin won't do well at Houston. He will get them dancing and keep them there...
I don't know about that 3-7 years comment.. we would have had stronger NCAA sanctions had he stayed.. but we certainly wouldn't have fallen like we did under Capel..

It does depend on the sanctions. Anything short than a few recruiting sanctions, and maybe the loss of 1-2 scholarships, and I don't think it would have hurt him at all. Not only was he bringing in that great class, he had several of his type of player already on campus, plus he was in on a lot of quality talent in the following class. It's a shame we never got to see it materialize.
