Who are some guys we think we could get...

With the program where it is i dont know how excited we are going to be about the candidates...throw some out there...

U think Steve would come here?

Obviously i think OU is a much better job, but i wonder if guys will look at this job as much less than it's potential because of the way it has been managed lately...

Whoever it is (if Capel is fired) Joe C will have to throw some money and get someone qualified and has proven themselves.
Can't take a chance on a up and comer coach. Got to get someone that recruits will notice.

Open up the bank and get someone to inspire the program.

Steve Alford

We don't need another tea drinker we need a hard-nosed SOB as a coach and players. Might be a good fit for skirt ball at KU not OU. We need effort, hard-nosed borderline mean SOB's, top 10 talent doesn't come calling every year at OU.

have you seen Steve Alford teams? Some of his good Iowa teams were insanely hard-nosed.

I think Billy Clyde would be the perfect fit. He always reminded me of KS a bit. His teams at A&M played with a chip on their shoulders and were hard nosed.

My concern would be about drinking problems. Did he ever get his act together?

In no particular order:

Billy Clyde wouldn't be half bad, but that he didn't have success at UK concerns me.

Josh Pastner, OU is still a better job than Memphis and the kid can recruit like the dickens.

My personal choice would be taking a long hard look at Terry Evans. He is proving that he can get it done at a lower level, could wrap up Oklahoma kids and maybe bring in a guy like Jeff Webster to work the North Texas kids. High risk, but high reward potential there, but if you could put that staff together and possibly bring in a guy like Steve Eck to be an assistant, you'd absolutely be able to recruit well in areas where OU typically gets players. I look at the joke we all thought Frank Martin would be...who is laughing now?

BUT, the likely scenario is that Capel gets another year, becuase otherwise Boren and Castiglione would have to admit they made a mistake and powerful dudes like that do not like to make that admission.

FWIW, I think I made a mistake too. I really like Jeff and I thought that last year was an anomoly based on kids that put themselves first, but you just can't lose to Chaminade when you are at OU. Just can't.

Can he coach though? Yes he can recruit that is for sure.

I wouldn't really have that huge of a problem with Evans.

Remains to be seen, but he was Lute Olsen's protege at Arizona for quite some time.

I think this year will be a fair indicator of his coaching ability.

Yes I knew about his stint at Arizona. Was regarded as a very good recruiter out there.

The #1 option here is bringing Tubby Smith back to this part of this part of the country. National championship winner, classy guy, winner, tough coach. If I were Joe C., Tubby would be my #1 option.

OU probably wont land a huge name, but I remember before Capel was hired I mentioned Mark Fox a few times. He is now at Georgia, which is a horribly crappy basketball job. IM surprised he took that kind of a job, considering how many games he won at Nevada.

Mark Fox at Nevada
25-7 (1st in WAC)
27-6 (1st in WAC)
29-5 (1st in WAC)
21-12 (1st in WAC)
21-13 (2nd in WAC)

Steve Alford would be a good one... I would like Billy Clyde as well, if he has credibility and could still recruit despite his alcohol problems being known.

Gillispie would get us playing Sampson era ball again. We'd be the toughest, most hard nosed team in the conference again.

I would bending with Pastner, BG and Tubby. I have no idea whether we are attractive to any of them. Terry Evans is interesting. I have always felt thereis enough talent in Ok and Tx to be successful here.

Rick Majerus. If his 2 top players hadn't got tossed he would have STLouis back fom the dead.
He has won everywhere and I think he's in the mold of the Mich State coach, Tom Izzo, hard driving, defensive minded and also seems to be able to recruit even in tough situations.
Overweight but never been in trouble violation-wise.

hire chaminade's coach, i here he's already beat a a div. 1 school this yr.
