Coaching possibilities for next season....

I would bending with Pastner, BG and Tubby. I have no idea whether we are attractive to any of them. Terry Evans is interesting. I have always felt thereis enough talent in Ok and Tx to be successful here.

I think Gillispie would jump at the opportunity. He had a chance return to coaching last year but nobody was calling. Pastner probably wouldn't, since they have a great fan base and loaded roster. Tubby might but he's probably too old at this point.

Cheno? Why Steve Alford? I know he's a former IU player.

I've just always liked him. He's a Midwest guy which would help in recruiting.
Gillespie and Tubby would be great hires as well.
I know he's not a big name yet but Gregg Marshall at WSU is good.

Josh Pastner, OU is still a better job than Memphis and the kid can recruit like the dickens.

You're out of your mind if you think OU is a better job than Memphis right now.

Rick Majerus. If his 2 top players hadn't got tossed he would have STLouis back fom the dead.
He has won everywhere and I think he's in the mold of the Mich State coach, Tom Izzo, hard driving, defensive minded and also seems to be able to recruit even in tough situations.
Overweight but never been in trouble violation-wise.

I didn't look it up but isn't Majerus like 73 years old? :ez-laugh:

Edit: He's actually 62 but that is really old to be starting a coaching job at a program in a Big 6 conference...

You guys are smoking rocks if you think OU's gonna hire any kind of a big or recognizable name.

Shoot, who had heard of jeff capel before he was hired? and I think OU was a more attractive job then.

between the losing and the pending ncaa actions, jeff has nuked this program.

:facepalm

Pastner won't leave memphis for OU. Memphis usually sells out its 18,000 seat arena and draw more fans than the grizzlies. I hope OU goes after Tubby Smith, he would be perfect for OU. Capel is over his head and needs to be fired after this season.

Tubby would be great.

My wish list:

1. Brad Stevens
2. Tubby Smith
3. Billy G

Obviously Stevens isn't coming nowhere near Norman so it's Tubby or bust. If Tubby doesn't come our last hope is... Billy G. He could resurrect his career here and do the same for us in the process.

For the record though I don't think Capel is going anywhere. I have faith that Capel will get this team headed in the right direction and create a little momentum going into next year before THIS year is over.

Some names that come to mind off the top of my head...

(I know not all of them would leave)

Chris Mack - Xavier (Continuing the Xavier coaching hotbed; Thad Matta, Sean Miller, Skip Prosser)
Tubby Smith - Minny (He's getting old but is still viable)
Cuonzo Martin - Missouri State (former Purdue standout)
Ben Jacobsen - Northern Iowa
Tony Barbee - Auburn (It won't look like it this year with him coaching the Tigers but he's a really good coach who would leave in a hurry even with a new facility there at Aub)
Mark Fox - Georgia (Much like Barbee, Fox is a good coach at a bad basketball school)

Tubbs.
Steve Lavin just because of his wife.

Gillispie would get us playing Sampson era ball again. We'd be the toughest, most hard nosed team in the conference again.

I loved Sampson... I don't want to have to listen to everybody complaining about us winning 25 games a season again... We pretty much have reaped what we have sowed as far as karma is concerned.

Agree, but why wait or has Billy landed somewhere?? If not, get Capel out of here and bring BG in immediately.

Let's give Sampson another shot. At least we would know going into each game that we have a chance to win. His teams played hard and were in every game they played in. I miss those days. It is very sad where Capel has taken this program.

He quit on OU. He wasn't fired. OU was put on probation and he bolted.

This whole post is a freakin joke.

We have a coach and likely WILL NOT have an opening next year!!!

I love some of the illogical thoughts that are thrown out on this board. We all knew (well anyone who has a freakin clue) that this year would be a rebuilding year. So basically, OU has lost 1 game (IMO) that they have no business losing. They were 3-0 heading into Maui, played a top 15 team tought to the wire, go beat by a team with equivilent talent and lost to a team (albeit a Div II) that was leading #2 ranked MSU and played them to the wire.

I was as frustrated as anyone with the loss..believe me...but I guess I am just much more positive then most on here.

Things I did like was the play of Blair. I never thought Pledger was the answer at PG. This is a better team when Blair is running the point. I also think CJ is coming a long and has a nice stroke to 17 ft...I wouldnt be opposed to starting him and bringing Nick off the bench. To me, Cam is the missing link. He has got to be more assertive and be a guy that can give us 10+ points a game. If he can do that...with consistent output from Cade, Fitz and hopefully Pledger...this team can become a decent team.

Face it, this team is not going to be great..but can be good..and with the two additions we have coming next year..if we can find a nice guard to add to the mix...I think the future is brighter than most of you.

The WORSE thing we can do as fans is turn our backs to this team becuase of our frustration and not support them or go to the games. Face it, we as sooner fans have simply been spoiled. We hadn't had a losing season in over 30 years until last year!!!! I don't think many of you fully understand that...we took it (winning) for granted. Ans know we are experiencing what practically all programs experience from time to time..and as fans are not dealing with it as well as we should be.
