I am a student at University of Oklahoma and I just got an email that Coach Kruger and Sherri Coale are coming to my fraternity house to meet the students and have a bite to eat.

I think this grassroots marketing strategy is just great and a positive direction in garnering student support. I can't wait till next year's basketball season, in which we should be better and should have better student attendance!

yep, it's a good move on their part.

Didn't Kelvin used to do stuff like that? Seems like I remember something from when I was in school, but don't know for sure.

What a great idea! I have been extremely impressed with Coach Kruger's skills in marketing and public relations. He's as good as most professionals I've known. I love the way he is reaching out to students to gain their support and to get them to accept ownership of the basketball program. It's also good that he is including Coach Coale in these events.

Nice first post, 1991. Thanks for sharing, and welcome to OUHoops!

The only coach/team I remember doing this in the late 90s at OU was the wrestling program.

I'm pretty sure Kelvin did it when he first arrived. My daughter was in school then and she told me about it.

Isn't this what got Coach Sampson in trouble?;)

90% of coaches do functions at the Greek houses on their campus. It's marketing 101.

Players/Capel came by a few of the houses earlier in his tenure, think most of it was around the time BG got to campus.

its something that needs to happen if you struggle with Attendance.

Eddie Sutton did his radio show from various greek houses. Kelvin and his wife constantly worked the student body and also quietly served in many roles on campus. Kelvin and his wife were floor sponsors/house moms in the girls dorms for years. Gave the girls their cell phones/house phones and told them to use it any time of the day or night or if they got in trouble or got depressed, went to see them often.

Kelvin and Karen were/are great people. I understand people's frustration with Kelvin at the end and I haven't said anything before, and i can respect varying opinions of Kelvin as a coach, and can also respect the *****ing about the ncaa violations, but as a person, he was the best. JMO.

I wouldn't hesitate for one second having a son play for him.

Yeah, Capel did it as well back in 2007-2008 when OU conducted the Greek Challenge (whichever house had the most attendants at the basketball games won a nice flat-screen TV among other prizes).

so, being a human being is an awesome new marketing strategy....
