Couple coach sightings and notes from Hutchinson kansas juco tournament

I dont think there is any doubt he will be way better on defense then tmg...this dude is listed at 6'4 so he will also be a better rebounder...are you saying you want him to play over tmg? cause I dont think tmg will ever be a great defender

Bird is 6'4" and isn't better than TMG on D. Plus watching some of this game, his (Carter) effort is not there on the defensive side!

If thats true then we dont need him...Our backup pg should be an effort guy on defense

Who knows if TMG is even going to be here? He stated he was going to visit with Capel about some things and we haven't heard anything yet, so makes me wonder if he's gone.

Regardless, if he plays defense then yes, I think he should play over TMG unless TMG decides he wants to play defense.

Thing is carter doesnt play defense. Matador defense at times, just really weird at how he lacked on the defensive end

About to watch nate carter's brother marquiess carter play. We have a coach cline and a jeff capel sighting. Also chris "chest bump" fergusen from the pokes is in the house. Will try to post a game update a little later.

is osu gonna bring in 9 this year?

I am ecstatic. There is energy on a message board about OU basketball! Living out of state and watching every game I can on satellite, I get down looking at some of the LNC crowds and also, on other message boards, seeing basketball treated worse than a red-headed step child.

We need a bit more talent and depth. Going the JUCO route makes a lot of sense.

The possibility of getting some new blood into Norman is pumping me up.

I really hope we get 3 good signees in the next couple of months.

Whereabouts in Michigan are you from?

So no defense sam? Hey sam, let me know how CJ Washington of Connors looks.

Carter did have 37 steals in 28 games as a freshman. That may not be the best indicator of a defensive player, but by comparison, TMG had 28 steals in 31 games as a freshman at OU.

I dont think that steals number is something that can be a measuring stick due to competition. Obviously TMG is a very bad defensive player.

The Marquise Glover kid for Eastern Utah is the guy we need.

Just didnt see it today/yesterday. Some of it seemed like disinterest which was just plain weird since he had to know Capel and Cline was there, along with most likely some Wichita St coaches (another school recruiting him). Plus it was the national championships so it seems like a really odd time for him to just start having less effort on defense. He really seemed like another defensive question mark and I don't think this teams needs more of that.

Ended up heading today so I won't be their to watch Conner St, wish they had played yesterday instead of Wed. Really the talent level just seemed down at this tournament.

I watched some of the Eastern Utah vs. North Platte on the Internet feed and only observed on player who could play for OU and that was Michael Glover. Unfortunately he's a freshman, a Freshman that should be a Junior, but still a Freshman and probably headed east.

I watched part of the first half and all of the second half of Carter's game, and came away with the same thoughts soonersam expressed. The skills appear to be there. I just didn't see anything to get me overly excited. That was basically true of the players on both teams. But since OU reportedly has an interest in this kid to fill a void next year, I was hoping to see someone who would bring energy, enthusiasm, leadership qualities, and especially an effort on defense that could set an example for the younger guys. I didn't see any of those things, at least not enough to say that he is exactly what we need.

Did CJ play at Choctaw at any time during his HS career?

If memory serves, he might have but then transferred or something?

If Henzo is in the house, he seemed to have an interesting take on Washington and OU, like he wouldlove to come but OU thought he might not be a fit? My recollection is that he is a heck of a player.

I like what I've seen so far from Washington.

He's got four points and seven boards through the first 10 minutes. He's getting doubled and sometimes tripled when he touches it inside, which has been tough. Plays good position defense inside and contests lots of shots, then recovers to get the board. So far, so good.

This guard Mark Rutledge for Connors is also pretty impressive. Slashing, athletic 6-4 guard from Tulsa. Averages 14 a game for Connors and has 12 in the first half so far.
