Couple coach sightings and notes from Hutchinson kansas juco tournament

I like what I've seen so far from Washington.

He's got four points and seven boards through the first 10 minutes. He's getting doubled and sometimes tripled when he touches it inside, which has been tough. Plays good position defense inside and contests lots of shots, then recovers to get the board. So far, so good.

This guard Mark Rutledge for Connors is also pretty impressive. Slashing, athletic 6-4 guard from Tulsa. Averages 14 a game for Connors and has 12 in the first half so far.

Can he play hybrid if needed?

Washington just hit a jumper from the top of the key. He's got some range. Really liking his game. Also, if TMG comes back this Orlando Brown kid from Connors would be a nice sign as a backup.

Not sure if he could guard a 3. Looks more like a pure 4, but I could be wrong. Would definitely be a nice complement to Tiny. I like his overall game much better than Fitzgerald from what I've seen so far. He doesn't have the offensive moves as Fitzgerald, but he's longer/taller and rebounds and defends much better than Fitz. It's not like he's Johnny Gilbert on the offensive end, he has some good skills there.

Frame sounds like Patillo, can you compare athletisim?

BTW, I can't get streaming video here...I appreciate any help I can get on a player that I have heard a BUNCH of good things about.

He's not the athlete Pattillo is. Washington is a long 6-7, 6-8 220. I'd say he's a very good athlete but not a great athlete like a Damion James. Frame-wise he kinda looks like the Morris kids from Kansas, although he's not as talented as those guys. But he's still pretty good, IMO. He has great instincts crashing the boards on both ends.

Twice in this game Washington has crashed the offensive boards after a missed free throw and drawn a foul. Great effort on the boards.

Is Capel at that game?

Man I would love to add a good solid backup PG, a 6-8 athlete, and another big guy to this team. The guys we have all have certain skills, mostly offensive. If we put them with some guys to fill the needs that we have, we might have a good team next year.

Another offensive rebound, fouled, then hits two free throws for Washington. He's also hit a jumper from the top of the key and from the free throw line to go with about three two-handed stuffs.

Washington with two more free throws, now has 24 points. Connors down 4 in overtime.

Could Washington step in and help OU right away? Sounds like just what we need.

Sounds like he is a little taller than James, less athletic, but similar games [when James isn't jacking threes], fair?

Bring in Washington and Carter and OU will patch up a few holes.

I think he would've started this year next to Tiny, but that's me. He's wouldn't come in and dominate the Big 12, but he would be a very solid player for us, very good rebounder, solid interior defender with nice offensive game. As far as the total package, I like him a lot better than Fitzgerald.

He doesn't roam the perimeter like James does. He's an inside guy and he knows it. He only stepped out and took three jumpers (made two of them from just inside the top of the key). The best comparison I can come up with right now is a poor man's Morris twin from Kansas. Same type of frame/player, but not quite as talented. Still, pretty good.

I'm no expert talent evaluator though. Scout guru Eric Bossi is in Hutch and tweeted that he thought Washington would be a double-double guy at the right mid-major. Not sure how those numbers translate to OU, but that's what one expert says about him.

I'd take a double-double mid-major guy in a heartbeat at this point; espescially if he played tough defense and understood his role. Sounds like this guy does. I'm going to go out on a limb here on the composition of our next team:

Post: Gallon
Post: Washington (Jones if we are extremely lucky)
Wing: Cam
Wing: Cade
Point: Warren or TMG [only one of those two is here next season]

Post Depth: JUCO*, Fitzgerald and Allen
Wing Depth: Pledger, TJ
Point Depth: JUCO (Carter, who may get some run on the wing as well), TJ (I think he gets some reps here)

Redshirt: Neal
Who knows: Hardrick

Overall= 13 scholarships.

*I think this could be Ndaiye (sp?), but he is coming off an injury and I am not getting my hopes up too much for an instant impact at this point. I'd really like to the Lundy guy get a look as well.

He said Sam Houston State and Murray State are his two offers to go along with Southwestern Oklahoma State, which is close to Stringtown.

who's this? Washington?

Do we want somebody who is only recruited by these schools?

A lot of high major schools are just now starting to look at juco players, and a lot of them get offers after this juco tournament in Hutchinson.

You're right, we should only recruit players that other schools want. Like TMG, Gallon, Willis,......
