Keeping in mind that I'm a lifelong OU fan but Indiana Alum I'd like to point out where IU is and where they were in Crean's 1st 3 years after inheriting a program in shambles.

Crean's 1st 3 years:
Overall: 28-66
Conf: 8-46

IU this Year:
Overall: 25-7
Conf: 11-7

2 seniors, Tom Pritchard and Verdell Jones III, were IU's best guard and post, respectively, and now they come off the bench (tho Jones tore his ACL yesterday. If you want to see a coach who cares, watch the post game presser from yesterday where Crean actually cries over Jones). Crean has also done what he did this year w/o the team's best overall player, Maurice Creek, hasn't played all year due to a torn Achilles. Some IU fans were beginning to call for Crean's head. Now they're ranked 15th, in the NCAA tourney, have the best win of the year (UK), and have the #1 recruting class in the nation coming in next year.

Give Kruger some time. OU is in better shape now than IU was Crean's first 2 years, but not by much. Have some faith Sooner fans. Kruger will get it done.

Indiana, as a program, is far superior to OU's.

That doesn't make his point any less relevant. The superiority of Indiana's program didn't keep them from being down the last couple of years in Knight's reign and until Crean arrived.

did you get you nomination for troll of the year yet in the mail?
that has nothing to do with anything but you cant resist taking a jab at OU. why are you here?

This will be a touchy subject for some people around here. Just don't go asking any questions about WHY Indiana was in the toilet the begin with.

Mike Davis would be the answer to that question. He never got past the 2nd round of the NCAAs, which Kelvin did the first year he was there. But the topic of the thread is Crean and Kruger, so why not try to stick to it?

Uhhhh. Mike Davis and his Indiana team kicked our butts in the final 4. As Big said, a down Indiana is better than an elite OU.

And SS of course Sampson crushed Indiana just like he left OU in a mess for Capel.

Try again.

Try again.

OK, I thought the last two years of Capel's regime had tough some of the mentally challenged posters on this board that Kelvin was a damn good coach. Maybe I was wrong about that. To clarify, I might have been wrong about the mentally challenged posters figuring out that Kelvin was a damn good coach.

Q doesn't hurt his ankle and we win that game. We were a totally different squad after that happened.

Mike Davis got fired after taking Indiana to the second round in 2006. He was not the reason they were so bad the past six seasons.

Mike Davis was a good recruiter and a decent coach. Capel was a horrid recruiter and an even worse coach, if that's even possible.

IU is bad because KS got caught making too many phone calls. The sad part of this is, now their is no limit on phone calls. Shouldn't have been a limit in the first place.

I didn't much care for him, but I didn't think he should have been fired. Much like some OU football fans, lots of Indiana fans seem to think they are entitled to an NC every year or so. Davis didn't do badly, but it wasn't good enough for them. Actually, record-wise, Indiana was only bad the last 3 years previous to this one.

I'm not a big fan of Crean's. Regardless of what he was dealing with when he first got to Indiana, it shouldn't have taken him this long to get them back into the top 25.

Without Wade, Crean's a mediocre coach at a mid-level Big East school. He got lucky with a kid most major programs didn't even recruit (Wade was a partial qualifier). He's had some good years without Wade, and he is definitely a good coach. But he's nowhere near as good as some people seem to believe he is.

Anybody blaming Kelvin for it taking Crean so long to win didn't follow the situation very well. Crean lost some talent that first year, but he lost A LOT of games in years 2 and 3 with the kind of talent OU fans would do backflips over. What I took out of watching that unfold is that Tom Crean might not be as good of a HC as a lot of us thought he was.

Capel was a horrid recruiter? Talk about mentally challenged.

Blake Griffin
Willie Warren
Tommy Mason Griffin
Tiny Gallon
Stephen Pledger
Andrew Fitzgerald
Cameron Clark

all big time recruits

not to mention that Cade Davis turned out to be a good players, on top of all the juco all-americans that Capel got that at the time some of you thought were great. I personally dont care if a guy is a juco all-american. It just means they are the best of the guys that couldnt make it to D-1 in the 1st place.

Capel only gets 50% credit for Blake.

Willie Warren, Tommy Mason Griffin and Tiny Gallon may have been 'big-time' recruits but they weren't big-time players or teammates.

That leaves three guys are good team players.
