why everyone thinks KC is so automatic for hosting? No one in the upper sections. SAD

I know Proud but that is just sad. The earlier game had half empty too. I don't think they sold all the tickets from what I read in the KC paper. Might as well have it in OKC and Dallas - nothing special about KC IMO. Been there for this tourney several times - liked OKC better when both womens and mens tourney were across the street from each other.

you can tell the KC organizers were embarrased as they had all the crowd up top move down to the bottom sections so it wouldn't look so bad on national TV.

Why should a Kansas or Iowa State fan hang around to watch Kansas St. vs osu?

Iowa State is done, and Kansas has already played each team twice.

In the old days, when we all went there every year, most stayed the whole time - it was BASKETBALL silly. You went and watched 4 games per day and had a blast. I don't see that committment from the KC locals like it used to be SO if it is going to be that way GO AHEAD AND MOVE IT AROUND and have half empty arena's in other cities, let OKC/Dallas get the economic AND ability to have your local crowds. Just shouldn't be the Kansas schools IMO.

Same in football, if KC would have a roof on it's stadium I would say don't let Jerry's world have it every year. Unfortunately for KC it is crazy cold up there and they should never get another title game IMO.

It hasn't been crazy cold in December for a while now. And if so so what? It's football and not tennis. I'd rather play on a nice field while cold then that cow pasture Houston has trotted out. And don't look for a roof anytime soon. You could build a decent stadium for the cost of that.

We need 2 more teams to have a discussion about a football title game, so that is a moot point right now.

I do agree that the basketball tourney should rotate between OKC and KC. Personally, I would not add Dallas to that rotation. They have proven that they really do not care for the tourney there. Maybe another Texas city could be used if one is required to appease the Texas schools. I like Dallas as a city, but the games I have been to there have been pretty dull.

1) The tournament in KC is 10x better than the tournament in OKC and 10x better than when it was at Kemper.

2) The place was absolutely packed for the early game. Great atmosphere.

3) The P&L District was packed for the second game and you couldn't move before the first game.

4) I used to think OKC deserved the tournament. After seeing what KC is doing, it should be in KC every year.

5) They set an attendance record tonight. It was a sellout.

I'm glad someone that was there is pointing this out. It'll be nuts tomorrow.

I think KC does a good job with the Big 12 tournament and it should be here every year. But lets face it, with the tourney in KC the crowd all depends on how KU fares. If KU ever loses in the first round the remaining crowds will be small. There are 2 reasons why there was a record crowd in the first game: KU and ISU. But ISU is still a distant second compared to KU. The number of KU alums in the area is far above other teams and basketball is what they have.

Of course it will be nuts. It's an all Kansas final and the game is in KC. It would be nuts in OKC if OU and OSU played in the finals of the conference tournament championship, too. Just as it would be nuts in Dallas if it were an all Texas team finals. I'm not in favor of any city having sole possession of the tournament.

We can agree to disagree. No way you should have it every year where KU and KSU can just drive right down the road and pack it out. Have to be fair when you can and you CAN with this. Many other VERY good places to hold it. OKC is a WONDERFUL place and with Bricktown and all the hotels all you have to do is fly into town and take a cab and never even rent a car. 45+ restaurants and bars, parks, river stuff, 16 screen movie theatre, bass pro, etc etc etc.

Just can't give it to one city IMO every single year.

And to the comment on outdoor football in Dec. I sat in the but cold in 2000 and froze so please don't say "It's not that cold" LOL big time. When you can have it indoor and the weather NOT affect it you should do it Like the SEC does as well.

Bowls by was on the local sports station on Thursday and he sounded pleased with the turnout. However, on yesterday's show, the host who interviewed Bowlsby said Bowlsby's facial reactions to the questions suggested he wasn't pleased with all the festivities around the sprint center because the crowds were smaller. The P&L had another 3-5000 watching games in bars and on the big movie theater screen who were able to consume beers. The host mentioned it would not surprise him if KC loses it if the crowds don't get better in the next 3-4 years.

Obviously the loss of Mizzou hurt and they were playing the late SEC game which probably affected the turnout for the last game. Some KU fans probably left to watch Mizzou play (in the bars at the P&L).

The real problem, sadly, is the turnout from TCU, Tech, and OU. Baylor and Texas didn't have great turnouts either, but much better than the first 3. Each team gets an equal allotment, and those teams didn't come near to selling all of theirs. Another problem is the fact the women's and men's tournaments were separated this year. Had they both been in KC, the first days turnout would have been better, especially for Baylor and OU, IMO. But that hurts the women's attendance. So the conference is going to have to decide which is more important, or move the men's to other locations.

Following the 2011-12 season the men's and women's basketball championships will become stand alone events, taking place in separate cities. The men's championship is under contract, and will continue in Kansas City through 2014. Starting in 2013 the women's championship will be held in Dallas at the American Airlines Center, with Oklahoma City playing host in 2014 at the Chesapeake Energy Center. With the change, the women's basketball championship will take place the Friday-Monday preceding the men's championship, which will continue its Wednesday-Saturday format.

"Our woman's basketball coaches and student-athletes will have the opportunity to showcase the sport's premiere Conference championship in state-of-the-art arenas that our home to NBA teams," said interim commissioner Chuck Neinas. "I would like to thank the Kansas City Sports Commission for accommodating our desire to separate the men's and women's basketball championships. Kansas City continues to be a valuable partner of the Big 12."

The 2013 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship returns to Dallas for the first time since 2006. In 2003, 2004 and 2006 the Championship took place at Reunion Arena. The American Airlines Center and Big 12 Conference hosted the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Regional, which was second in overall attendance for both sessions with 21,030 spectators, including 11,508 at the final between Baylor and Texas A&M. The AAC is home to the 2011 NBA champion Dallas Mavericks.

Oklahoma City will host the women's basketball championship for the first time in Chesapeake Energy Arena after the 2007 and 2009 Championships were played in Cox Convention Center. The Big 12 and Oklahoma City served as hosts of the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Regionals in what is now Chesapeake Energy Arena. Both years the Oklahoma City Regional registered the best attendance among the four regional sites for both single session and combined attendance. The facility serves as home to the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder.

OKC has a history of being one of the best places in the country that supports WOMEN'S basketball.

It would be nice if OKC could host the men's Big-12 Tournament every 3rd year or 4th year.

Here is what you all are missing. If OU and OSU were in the championship game in OKC, it would be sold out, but 1/4 of the crowd would still be KU fans. On the other hand, if OU and OSU were eliminated, the crowds would be (and were) smallish. It's not that way in KC. KU and ISU fans still show up when they are eliminated. I was of the opinion that OKC should get the tourney on a rotating basis until this year.

Why hold the tourney in a state that doesn't even have a Big 12 team?
