I think that's probably a reach to say that Steve doesn't care AT ALL about the opinion of the citizens. I think what he is saying is that elected leaders have to do what they think is right for the country, and that decision will certainly consider public opinion, but not simply go along with said public opinion.
In my experience, Steve is very much a "follow the science" kind of guy...
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, opening the schools is going to be a massive decision for this country. Any state, city, town, etc that closes schools is going to have serious problems... For employers, kids, parents, communities, etc. It has serious and far-reaching implications.
I would like to see some plans on how schools would like if they open, ranging from most extreme and down to least intrusive. The issue is going to be federal involvement. They will likely issue guidelines, and then every little district in the country will just kind of do their own thing. Broken Arrow will do something different than Jenks, who will be different than Bixby, who will be different than Owasso, etc.
My first question on this..... CAN the federal govt shut down schools?
