Look, police are under a microscope right now.... and enough evidence has surfaced to know there are legitimate problems. We need to take a step back and evaluate what the problems are, and work to solve them. During that time, people are going to mad, people are hurt, people want change and want to be heard, and it's going to be a little over the top sometimes. We have to let that pressure, that fear, that anxiety, etc be vented. If you try to bottle it up, things won't change. People will forget, lose interest, and go back to normal. We can't have that.
We see that too many times on other issues. A bunch of kids get gunned down, we got upset for awhile, and it goes away. A black man gets murdered by police, we get upset for awhile, and it goes away.
This seems different. This seems like it has some staying power. But we must not turn our attention to things like "defunding" the police. We need to stay on message and not turn this into a debate about whether or not to have police. A small group of people want that... they are loud, but they are small. The vast majority of people want police, they just want police to be different. By focusing on the tiny few who want to defund the police, it takes attention away from the real issues, and more importantly, the real solutions. It's a distraction. The man on the top floor (Trump) is pushing that narrative as hard as he can, and his conservative news apparatus as well.
This is a pivot.... They want you fighting about not having police at all. They don't want you fighting for racial justice. That isn't good for him politically. That's why he does what he does.
