I honestly think the bigger part of the problem is what they are being asked to police... They are basically being asked to police communities with extreme poverty. All roads lead back to inequality, poverty, etc. You guys know my societal stats, I don't need to go over them again, but it's a tough job to police failed economic policies. Not just a tough job, but an impossible job.

What % of a poor community flagrantly violates the law. If most do not what prevents others from following suit?

Lets defund teachers as a whole because of the ones that rape their students.

That makes zero sense.

Defunding makes zero sense for cops as well.

That doesn't mean improvements can't be made

Teachers who rape their students go to jail & are reported sex offenders. The problem is police don’t get convicted when they kill an innocent person.

All of this talk about not giving them military grade weapons, more training, etc... Maybe all of that stuff is useful, but it doesn't fix the underlying problem.

the underlying problems are:
- some people are not mentally fit to be policemen; and
- police are asked to do things that should be well outside the purview of their job.

I’m not for defunding police, I’m for much more training. I actually want them well funded & paid so more applicants mean you weed out the bad ones easier. However, the cover ups & mistreating officers who report another officer is also a major issue that needs to be corrected that idk if more training & better pay will solve.

Agree completely

Some good points there, BC. Your last sentence is definitely problematic, and an impediment to any noticeable improvements. There are more “politics” on a police force than most occupations, so it will be a major hurdle to overcome. I guess it starts with one police force at a time.

If Joe Biden wants to win in November, he’ll back off that defunding nonsense. Only the extreme left would support it, and he’s getting their vote regardless.

There is a direct correlation between crime and poverty... Not every single person is going to commit crime, but we can't keep doing down the road we are on. Too many people are poor, too many people are working too hard for not enough, and too many kids are growing up in dangerous places and repeating the cycle.

Education, community development, job training, tech schools, military recruitment, etc are all things that need to be intensified x 10. Military recruiting would be controversial in a way, but I really believe in it as part of the solution. Two very close friends of mine were poor growing up, joined the military, and have done extremely well. Career military guys, making a good living, got free education. Both are about to hit their 20 year marks with job skills, education, no debt, and a pension.

We have to go in there and rebuild these communities.... rebuild these broken down rural areas as well. You can't expect a ghetto to produce what you want it to produce as long as it stays a ghetto.

Persons in poor households at or below the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) (39.8 per 1,000) had more than double the rate of violent victimization as persons in high-income households

Persons in poor households had a higher rate of violence involving a firearm (3.5 per 1,000) compared to persons above the FPL (0.8-2.5 per 1,000).

The overall pattern of poor persons having the highest rates of violent victimization was consistent for both whites and blacks.

Did you read the article? This proves my point! One guy got charges dropped & received $350,000 to resign. As I read that only 1 example actually got the punishment they deserved.

Are you saying none were convicted?

Did you not recently state "I’ve yet to see a cop get convicted for killing an innocent person while on duty."

Are you serious?

Yup. I know of one teacher who got caught that didn’t get charged & teaching certificate taken away.

With that article that sheep helped me prove my point on, only 1 police officer got charged to the extent.

Huge difference there.

Most of these criminals could get a job if they wanted to. Convince us how having a job is worse then being in jail and setting oneself up for more of the same. It is a choice and people on both sides of the law make it apparent each and every day.

Of murder? 1 did as I said. Seriously read that article & tell me how it doesn’t prove the point that cops are getting away with killing innocent people.

I didn’t know about the 1 in that article. The rest got off with nothing, a slap on the wrist, or got $350,000.

You explicitly used the word "convicted."
