Daniel Orton

To compare Pacquiao to MLK is ridiculous. Pacquiao is abusing his national fame to dip into matters he has no business getting in to. Owner of a team ok, but to play for them when you obviously are out of your league is insulting to the players who deserve to be there.

haha, Daniel Orton is playing basketball in the Phillippines.

It wasn't that bad of a statement but not very smart do it in the Phillipines where Manny is a god.

Daniel has been a waste of talent. Nobody could get him to play hard and he made a terrible decision going to Kentucky as far as developement as a player. His dad did well working the Kentucky basketball camp.

He has done a ton for the people of that country.

Think he made a great decision going to Kentucky. If he'd been somewhere that he wasn't playing marginal minutes he would have been exposed and never been a first round pick.

I agree and a good decision turning pro

Didn't Pacquiao say, roughly a year ago, that homosexuality should be a capital offense? So there's a human rights record.

Orton has a point. Maybe they should fight! I mean, it's no fairer for a 5'6 guy with no jumper or handles to get paid for appearing in pro ball games than for a doughy 6'11 guy to get paid to stand in against a welter/middleweight champion... right?

And for the record, I really want him to beat Floyd. The way that Floyd beats women. Money is a cancer on sports culture, and not that Manny is a real cut above, but he needs a reality check.

Since he's done so much that lets him play a sport professionally that he has no business being in? He's abusing his fame. I agree Orton's statements were unwise to make but he's not wrong.

Abusing his fame? He's making money for the Phillippines basketball league. Professional sports are a business, nothing more, and if an NBA team thought it would make them money to put Ffloyd Mayweather on a team, they'd do it in a heartbeat.

Exactly. Michael Jordan played minor league baseball. I don't know if he was qualified or not but I am sure his celebrity impacted the decision.

Furge, I assume you said these two guys should fight as a joke. Despite the difference in size, surely you don't believe Orton would stand much of a chance against Pacquaio? When the little guy got through with Daniel he would be wearing boys size medium pants. :ez-laugh:

I agree it brought them money. I guess I'm just on the side where I hate celebrity stunts when they actually impact the game in a negative (to me) way.

I would bet most players would be offended that their owner would play for their team when they don't have the ability.
