Denny Announces Moser Staying

I just got back and have not read all the posts, but is Denny serious? Did he really say OU has an "underdog spirit"? If so that's the most tone deaf, either intellectually dishonest, or just downright stupid comment i've heard in awhile. OU may not be at the top of the world in every sport, but the OU brand is well know world wide and I can assure it's not because of being an underdog. LMAO. Hello, people hate us because of our over hundred year track record of excellence in athletics across many different sports. Honestly I wish I wouldn't have heard that. He may need to do some more homework..

Yeah that seriously rubbed me the wrong way

Denny’s statement- and decision makes the same points that I have been making, just in a lot clearer way. It is not fair to an employee to judge his performance when he isn’t given anywhere near the resources of his competitors

I don’t blame joe c, he has to give priority to football for now.

I’m not the biggest fan of porter moser. But is simply unfair and incorrect that he has done a poor job given the circumstances he came in on and the lack of competitive resource afforded him.

It might be denny will not have the money to up his resources to be competitive for a while. If so, then i doubt we will become more competitive with or without moser

I don't really agree that our resources have been WAY behind MOST of the SEC. But let's say they have been.

Do you think Moser has gotten the most of the talent he's had? Think back. He has the Groves brothers which were HIS prized 1st year gets. He had Mo Harkless who is playing in the NBA. He has Duke Miles who is the second leading scorer for a good Vandy team. He has Miles Uzan who is the third leading scorer for an elite Houston team. He had Otega Oweh who is the leading scorer for a 21 win Kentucky team. And others. I don't think he has. That doesn't take a comparison to other teams. I'm asking if he maximized the rosters he has had. Mostly, I say no he has not.

Also, I'm not really sure how you say we don't have the talent when we've beaten or played games right down to the wire with some of the better SEC teams here recently. We just lost a nail-biter to the 3rd best SEC team and barely lost to them in the regular season. Played the 2nd best team to a 2 point loss. We beat the 4th best SEC team earlier. Smoked the 6th best. Split with the 7th best. Beat the 9th best.

How do you do that without having the talent needed to compete? We didn't have the talent to hold onto 20 point leads? To beat SC or Miss State? Win one of those games we lost with a big lead. Win one of the two bad SEC games we lost. Win one more OOC game (we had chances). Our regular season record would have been 20-11, and we'd have been 9-9 in the SEC. Lack of coaching, not lack of talent, is why we didn't do that. Lack of talent is why Florida and Tennessee boat raced us and why nobody expected this team to finish in the top 3 of the SEC or be a legit top 15 type team.

I agree with this. But there is very little support to give. A new coach could atleast excite some people. Who is genuinely excited about another season under Moser? Crickets…
If by some chance the committee pits them in and they can make the sweet 16 that would generate some excitement. And it they can retain Brown, Reid, Dayton, maybe Rogers and Atak and Hit on quality portal talent....I'd be optimistic going into next year. Heck even if we miss the tournament but retain this guys and get quality portal additions I'll be optimistic.

There is no reason we can't improve over Jones & Davis. And also players at least equivalent to Mo and Pack.

Good coaches win games even when the team isn’t shooting it well. And there’s no excuse for losing to the terrible teams we lost to this year. I realize you’re a Moser apologist to the end but give me a break.
I’m not a Moser apologist and have even said it was time for a change. I can be practical about it though. The fact is, he will be back…nothing any of you can do about it..and the new AD has even acknowledged the resource issue that Porter has had to navigate through.

Maybe some of you should just take a break from OU b-ball for a year or so…since you can’t stand the guy.

Maybe you should worry about you and I’ll worry about me.

Spending isn't a 1:1 proposition.

Like I said, I'm guessing at least half of the top 25 isn't in the top 25 of NIL spending.
Outside of a few teams in the top 25 (Miami of Ohio, St. Louis), I would bet practically 90%+ of the other teams ranked spent more than we did in NIL. Go down the list. And teams like Miami and St. Louis wouldn’t even be ranked if it wasn’t for their records. Put those teams in the SEC or Big 12 and let me know where they finish.

How can with a straight face say this?

People know things. The whole athletic dept lives in the norman area.

People know boosters. Everything is not in secret or a gag order.

Just because you don’t doesn’t mean others don’t.
Canada doesnt. Speak for yourself

Where is the new NIL money going to come from? Is he going to get more booster to donate more? Charge students a fee? Borrow?

Really, because OU has rarely had great guards AND a starting post that was worlds better than Wague.

Why did Wague never improve? Why didn't Moser move on from him, freeing up money to sign a better center last year?

Lack. Of. Coaching.
Wague played his best ball here at OU, but he has a ceiling. No coach was turning him into an all conference player. He is what he is. And my guess is Moser didn’t move on from him, because he couldn’t afford to pay another legit starting post another $750k+ over what Wague cost. Porter tried to land a post late, but McGriff wanted to start and opted to go to K-State. He would have been a nice addition..but still a step down from the posts at the teams in the top half of the league.

A guy I REALLY liked this year was Chinyelu at Florida. How good would this OU team be with his post presence?? And that dude started his career at Washington St!! We need to find a guy like that.

Wague was good enough to be the starting center for OU in wins against:

Vandy
Mizzou
texas
aTm
I agree. But he simply isn’t consistent. Decent players play well “occasionally”. Good to great players rarely have too many off nights.

During that 9 game losing skid, Wague scored the following: 4,0,9,0,7,6,4,5,2. That’s an average of 4 ppg. That isn’t going to cut it if we want to be a 23+ win type of team.

Denny has an American Express card and he gets points with every purchase. We’re good.
