Well I assume the local media is going to start asking Joe C about Capel's future. This is normal when a coach has a 9 game skid to finish the season, ends at 13-18, no post season 2 out of 4 years, terrible off the court decisions by young players and more than several complete blowouts. He has had 2 of the worst seasons since 80-81. 16-15 and 13-18.

I haven't read anything is the media giving Joe C a pass or did he say no comment?

I don't think it's to the point that the media will start asking about Capel's future. If we have another year next year like this one, then it will start but not now. Especially after the elite 8 appearance last year.

Capel is very lucky to keep Blake last year otherwise he might be in a tough spot now. He has made a run 1 out of 4 years. I agree next year is make or break however I am not so sure Joe C will see it that way if a high profile coach is looking. 13-18 and a 9 game skid is amazing it is CU like.

Huh!? What exactly is "a run"? If it's to the Sweet 16, the two previous coaches were ZERO for their first four years. It took Coach Tubbs his 13th season to have a bad coaching performance and it took Coach Sampson 12 years. It's taken Coach Capel 4 years, but I'm not ready to give up on him just yet.

Also, the two previous coaches combined for 26 NCAA Tournament wins in 26 years. Coach Capel has 4 wins in 4 years. Again, let's see what happens next year. Jeez.

I don't disagree, but at the same time Joe knew he was hiring an "up-and-comer" on the cheap when he made the hire, so Jeff will get some latitude. I also think because Jeff is african-american, OU will probably give him more time because of the image hit the University took when John Blake was fired. Remember, he was fired after 3 dismal seasons and no hope in sight. At least Jeff has proven if he has the best player in america he can coach the team to a good season.

I think you also have to admit Jeff is a good image for the University. He's very bright and very nice and he's still learning. I think he will get some pressure if next year is like this one, but he won't get fired.

The only thing that could cause the pressure to really intensify is either NCAA probation or more offcourt issues. If the offcourt issues continue the pressure will intensify.

Now that I've had some time to cool off, I really hope Jeff can get it done. I hope he makes some changes on his staff to get a "heavy" who can hold the kids accountable so he and Jeff can play "good cop/bad cop" like Bob and Mike Stoops used to do. He needs somebody who's going to light up TMG when he tries to run his own offense. He needs somebody these kids fear.

Yes I hope he makes it too, next year will be make or break. What the hell does race have to do with it I don't understand your point.

I don't remember Sampson ever having the worst team in the 12.

The only thing it has to do is the PR nightmare the University took when John Blake was fired. Castiglione is who led the charge to fire John Blake. Because John's last team was 5-6 a lot of people (national journalists, etc.) felt he should have been given more time.

Because of this, Jeff will get plenty of time to fail. At this point, he hasn't failed because of the team last year and the year before. When/if that time comes it will be so evident that Jeff wasn't getting the job done that the U will be able to justify it had nothing to do with his skin color but everything to do with results. This is why I say he won't get fired if we have a dismal season next year.

The only way he gets fired next year is if we have more offcourt issues and/or probation (probation won't happen because Jeff won't do that).

Like it or not, that is the environment we live in. That's all I'm trying to say.

This makes me laugh.

Castiglione won't panic and start issuing ultimatums about what Capel needs to do. Capel knows what he needs to do.

Let's let Capel do his work this offseason. If by some chance we fall short of expectations again next season, then we can start asking some serious questions about his future here.

BOB and butter, are you trying to see how many ways you can dream up to start new threads on the same topic? Do you have some kind of bet between you? :)

Geeeez, guys! I love to see new threads on this board. But Coach Capel has been beat up enough in the past few days. Find something else to talk.
