Are you trying to say you know without a doubt he’s nba good and will never stay 4 -5 years anyways ?.......because he’s not even close to that right now .
Now he’s got an absolute star in front of him right now at his best position who’s only a freshman .
I’m not saying Doolittle doesn’t have a ton of potential, but hes a shell of himself from the end of last season .
He even looks smaller ,like he’s hasnt even been in a S and C program even on his own .His game and body look like he literally took 8 months away from basketball .
He needs court time but how’s he going to get it without injuries to others not to mention Big 12 play where blowouts will be hard to come by
There's about 15 reasons not to redshirt Doolittle, and I'm not going to dive into every aspect, but I'll rattle off a few.
The biggest reason not to redshirt him is that he's good enough to contribute. I don't believe in redshirting legitimate contributors in college basketball (with only a few exceptions), and certainly not in a year where you have a guy like Trae Young. We're all in.
Second, it's really, really tough to get 5 years out of an NCAA athlete. Yes, it's possible Doolittle could try his luck at the pros before his four years is up. I'm not overly concerned about the NBA right now, but it's not out of the realm of possibility, and it's not unheard of for guys to try their luck in Europe. Then you continue on to the possibilities of him getting into trouble, graduate transferring, having a major injury, or my personal favorite -- academic problems. Maybe it's just me, but he doesn't strike me as the kind of kid who wants to spend 5 years in the classroom.
And then, of course, there's the possibility you brought up, where we're just too talented to have a need for a guy like Doolittle. If that's the case, then it's not going to get any easier for him. In fact, it's going to get tougher as Manek, McGusty, Odomes, and James will all be a year more mature, and we're adding Bieniemy as icing on the cake. If that truly is the case, then we don't want him on scholarship for 5 years; we want to process him through and free up the scholarship.
Doolittle and McGusty were a special pair as freshmen last year. There isn't a school in our conference, including KU, that wouldn't have been happy to have them. There were quite a few times last year when they were the only reason I was even able to turn the game on. Several posters seemed to have lost a lot of the excitement they had for McGusty until recently, but I think most realize that was a mistake. I think the same is true for Doolittle. Just give it some time.
