I've been doing it a lot the past few days when I think about the team. I'm not sure if its homer fan in me or just getting tired of reading so many down and out thoughts recently. Not even just here, when lurking on other boards or blogs its fire Capel, this team sucks, who cares its just basketball etc. I don't know rather I should be happy that OU basketball has finally become a talking point or sadden that its reached this level of gloominess.

I really doubt Capel's ability as a bench coach and in building a team (I believe he can recruit I just don't think he knows the proper way to build a consistent complete team). I'm really afraid this team will flirt with 0-16. All that jazz but right now I'm drinking so much pro Capel kool aid mode that I think he's the best option and I'm borderline happy he's OU's coach. He's going to weather this storm and then some cool stuff will happen (don't ask what "cool stuff", but it will be cool)!

Despite the performances I've seen over this season I'm becoming more and more convinced a decent 6-10 or better record will happen in conference (hate that I even have to say that 6-10 is decent).

Even though I know this team is going to struggle on the glass and defending the post against every team in the conference.

Even though I know that teams that play tight pressure defense will give this team fits, especially even in just bringing the ball up the court.

Even though that unless this team has a couple guys hitting from three the half court sets will be miserable to watch the rest of the year.

Its going to happen and its going to start with the win over A&M.

Yes, yes I know A&M is 14-1 and 16th in the nation. I know that they have size and play tough physical defense somewhat akin to Sampson in his hey day.

But dadgummit this team will win it because its in the LNC and they're the Sooners.

Heck I've sold myself on that simple concept that I fully expect this team to defeat A&M, Nebraska, Colorado, OSU, Tech, Baylor and either Texas or Kansas at home THIS SEASON.

Even as I type out this post I'm shaking my head and what I'm typing as I know I had a better shot at winning the lottery the other day then this team magically pulling it together.

But its that one little chance, that only little hope that keeps me believing this season will become a success. Capel will right the ship, pull it together and grind out this season.

Heck I'm so full of that kool-aid I'm giddy over the expected NCAA tournament run and top 4 finish next season with the addition of Cezar Guerrero (hopeful thinking), Romero Osby and Robert Goff.

I've talked myself off the ledge and back into the bandwagon and I have no logical idea why.

I'm sure by the end of this week or the next I'll be back in reality and myself along with others will just look back and laugh but for now I believe.

Sure do hope you're right. Can't lie, if we beat A&M, I will be stunned.

I think if you ask these questions and answer them honestly you might change your mind.

Who will be the best player on the court?

Which team has the best back court?

Which team has the best front court?

How many people will attend the game?

I think the answers are Middleton, A&M, A&M and less than 50% capacity. I just don't see how OU wins.

I hope you're right Sam, but I fear this Kool-Aid you're planning to drink was produced and packaged in Jonestown!

Sam, I'm usually right there with you when it comes to an undying loyalty and optimistic outlook for how our season will turn out. I wish that was the case this year. But the realist in me does not believe this team can win six games against teams that will clearly be a lot more talented and bigger than any lineup we can put on the floor. I had two eight ounce glasses of Crimson Kook Aid before I went against what I really feel and picked OU to win four games in a recent poll.

I would love to be wrong and have to serve up a great big helping of crow for my end-of-season dinner.

Yeah, I wish I could share your enthusiasm Sam, but sadly I can't. As Ada said, in this instance I would be very happy to be wrong.

i would be absolutely shocked with conference wins.

Next year looks better though

Blair
Pledge
Clark
Osby
Fitz

If that's our lineup next year, we are maybe looking at 2 more wins for the season. Blair, Pledger and Fitz are little more than role players. 1 of them could start and the team would be OK, but all 3? No chance, at least in my opinion. Osby would have to be as good as Blake Griffin for that team to win 18-20 games next year.

just curious what time of night this type of post was made and yup

2:34 in the morning

bet there was a good mix of vodka in that crimson cool aid

Replace all that junk with a pile of recruiting tapes and I think you've got yourself a winner. ;)
