It says Spangler is underutilized on offense and has an effective FG% of 71%, which is higher than Derrick Williams when he was at Zona. Basically says what most of us have said early in the year: feed the post.

Ryan Spangler is the low-usage National Player of the Year

He's merely a role player within the Oklahoma offense, but when Spangler shoots, you can expect the ball to go in the basket. In the Sooners' first eight games, the 6-8 junior has made 66 percent of his 2s while also going 6-of-10 from outside the arc. That nets out to a 71.1 effective field goal percentage, putting him ahead of the pace that Derrick Williams (65.0) rather famously set for Arizona back in 2010-11. Then again, Williams was his team's NBA-track featured scorer, so there are indeed some apples and oranges to be sorted out in such a comparison.

That being said, Spangler's case is an intriguing one. Here's a guy who's a career 60 percent 2-point shooter (including spot duty as a freshman at Gonzaga in 2011-12), and as a team, OU is merely average in terms of field goal accuracy. Surely a few more experimental touches for the junior are in order, as the Sooners prep for conference play with home games against Oral Roberts, Weber State and George Mason (in addition to a game against Washington in Las Vegas). Give him the rock, Coach Kruger!
