Ethan Chargois to Oklahoma

It's impressive that a player who merely "had some good games" ranks 14th all-time in scoring at OU (just three points out of 13th place), this despite playing out of position for much of his career and dealing with Covid and a detached lung his senior season. And then to get snapped up by a blue blood program soon after hitting the portal? Remarkable, really.

Manek was a great career player. I wish he would’ve progressed more in other areas of his game, me & others thought he could’ve been a 3/4 player instead of a 4/5. But he never progressed his perimeter game (ball handling & defense). He was also hurt by the game moving to the perimeter & smaller lineups, which left him no one to guard.

I make a post trying to give an opinion on how I believe Chargois will be good for us... a positive post... in the midst of some pretty negative ones. Not even mentioning Manek at all. And somehow you old bitties twist, obfuscate, and do your usual hyper-paranoid creation of some ridiculous argument defending something that wasn't even made mention of in the first place. You cannot make this * up. Congratulations ladies!

You said he was a definite upgrade, quoting someone who said Chargois would probably be a starter in the frontcourt. I simply asked as politely as I could if you thought he’d be an upgrade over Manek since he was a 4 year starter in the froncourt that was considered, even by me, as the weak link of the team. You answered with a 3 paragraph bombardment of defensiveness ridiculing our previous front court with many exclamation points. So I give comparisons that might show Manek is better, and that your reasoning that Chargois is an upgrade might be wrong.

I was hoping for a reply for your reasoning why you thought Chargois would be better. Instead you complain about over reactions over a question towards you in which you reply with an over reaction.

I don't think Chargois is an upgrade over Manek. I do think he's an upgrade over the rest of our frontcourt departures.

He's not an upgrade over Manek, and he doesn't have to be. He and the Groves brothers need to be more productive than Manek, Iwuakor and Kuath. On paper, it appears they will. Let's hope it translates on the court as well.

Where I'm going to miss Brady is when his outside shot is falling (ex: against Missouri). We just didn't lose many games when he was knocking them jumpers down. If he was able to do that against Gonzaga, we would have really scared them. I'm hoping with that last scholly we get someone who can stretch the defense like he did. We really need to focus on offense with that last scholly.

the highlite video of him on DB he most definitely is an up grade, at least offensively than any post we had.

Vic was athletic but not a ball player. Anytime he touched the ball, outside of a putback he was lost. This kid can put the ball on the floor from the 3 pt line, drive and finish.

If we can get 8 or 9 pts and 5/6 boards from him it'll be great.

Manek's high production is higher than Chargois
Manek's low production is lower than Chargois

Manek produced more than Chargois will when hot.
Chargois will produce more than Manek when Brady was not hot.

Inside offense and defense and consistency was Manek's weakness.

But other than size and outside shooting I don't see much to compare. Pretty different players overall.

Not downing Brady. One of my favorite Sooners. Will watch UNC basketball some now just to see how he is doing.

I totally agree.....on paper, the front court is better.

People love to bash on Manek. He should have played the 3 and 4, but he played the 5 too much I liked seeing him a KK in the game together. I don't know much about Ethan than an couple articles I read. Different player, but doubt he is a better player than Manek.

For this years team he is 100% better because he is here and Manek is not.

Absolutely not

Brady has some advantages over Ethan but Ethan is 10x the post defender Brady is....I don’t think I recall a Sooner ever giving up such a high shooting percentage and as many offensive rebounds as Brady.
Brady has a slight advantage on offense and the boards are about a wash - defense is not close its Ethan in a landslide.
I like Ethan better over all because he plays D.
Iwuakor is not in the same league as either Brady or Ethan.
I bet he’s lucky to be 6’6” and he’s trying to play down low and he has no jumper.
He hustles and plays hard and would be a difference maker at 6’9”.
I like Groves, Hill, Chargois, and Issanza as our 4 post players.
Little Groves can defend a 4 if need be.

Lex, can you still post up any of the four you like? ;)

Everybody looks good on a highlight video. If not, you need to fire the videographer.

I agree...but show me a highlite of Vic/Kur...shooting and making SEVERAL 3's...taking the ball from the 3pt line and driving to the bucket...shooting a mid range shot.

I'll wait...

Ha ha I still play with neighborhood kids mostly in my driveway, we get some decent games going on weekends. But old age is getting the best of me. Posting these youngsters up isn’t as easy as it used to be.
Although I can still get kinda funky with my goal at 9.5’ I tried dunking on it three times at 10’ earlier this month. I was really close but couldn’t get one to stay down. I was sore for about three days. 53 is an old man to be dunking and since I haven’t dunked a regulation goal in over two years it appears my dunking days are in the past.
I’m gonna stick to making FB videos of how to effectively shoot free throws!
We (Lori and I) also started playing pickleball last year and we really dig it!
