Every game OU plays Capel becomes more of a joke..

At some point is the responsibility of the fans and alumni to call for a coaching change. John Blake and Jeff Capel clearly needed to go. In my years as a Sooner fan they were clearly the most incompetent coaches at OU's major programs. Gibbs and Captain Kangaroo also probably needed to go but they were at a different level then the first two clowns.

I really don't get why people defend Jeff Capel. We had NCAA issues under his leadership, we failed to reach the post season 60% of the time, he never one the conference or the conference championship, I think he lost more players than he graduated and most that graduated came from Sampson. The guy was a joke. He really set OU's basketball program back. Thankfully Joe C fired him and hired Kruger.

The point is that after a coach is gone, it serves no purpose to keep ragging on the guy.

Capel won a regular season conference championship and coached the Sooners to the elite 8. We were number one in the country that year in the polls and many (yourself included) were calling Capel the 2nd or 3rd best coach in the conference (behind only Self).

The revisionist history on this board amazes me.

She said it perfectly Denver. And for the record, I know that you wanted JC gone, and once he was was, I saw you move on..... My comments are/were geared towards those who can't seem to move on, ie this thread even being started....

I tend to understand your point, but I have a different type of fandom. I chose my favorite teams as a kid, following whoever my father supported. I became a Soonerfan as a small child, and planned to attend Ou from my youth. As a student, and now as a father, I have enjoyed everything OU.

I cheered for OU during the Blake yrs, and I cheered during the Capel yrs. I also root for the Dallas Cowboys. I cheered the loudest of my life the nightr we beat the redskins during our 1-15 campaign, early in JJ's tenure.

I support the Lakers as well. Have done so since my childhood. I celebrated during the Magic/Kareem/Shaq/Kobe dynasties, and I cheered and supported during the Smush Parker era.

As a fan, I love who I love, and no matter how bad, or how good, I will watch every game, support the heck out of them, and let those who are paid to make decisions, make them. I know many are different from me, and I have no problem with that. Its just how I view fanhood, and its also why I respect Cubs fans, Red Sox fans, etc.....

I have no intentions of continuing a debate about our former coach that has been hashed and rehashed for a year or more. But for someone who has been on both sides of this argument, I certainly understand why a few here still get riled up when Jeff Capel's name appears. I think a good case could be made that he left our program in far worse shape than anything Kelvin ever did.

That's all in the past now. Sampson has been pardoned and welcomed back by the majority of fans who were not happy with what he did. That list includes me on both counts. I didn't hate Kelvin, as I don't hate Jeff Capel. But to pretend that nothing happened by lashing out at posters who know better will not solve anything. Open communication can heal a lot of wounds when given the time to work its magic.

I agree, it's time to let go of the Capel bashing and focus our attention on the positives Coach Kruger has brought to our program. But nothing will be resolved by taking sides on this issue.

For whatever it's worth, that's how I see it. Carry on.

WOW!

There are still posters saying the negativity directed at Capel the last few years was uncalled for?

A few of you need to pay less attention to WHO is making a post, and more attention to the post itself. Some of you are so buddy-buddy that you'd defend certain posters if they claimed the sun wasn't hot. Geez!

Capel could coach but he was not ready to run a program. His mistakes were about who to hire and who to recruit.

OU finished a game behind KU that year. Our last regular season title was back when Taj & co. tied KU in the '05-06 season (OU won on the tie-breaker).

Sampson left our program on probation, so did Capel....for the love of God can we just be happy that OUr program has been strong enough to overcome? This thread needs to be moved IMHO.

KU won the Big XII conference in 2009. They finished 14-2. OU was 13-3. Blake got hurt in Austin and OU lost to Texas, KU and Missouri down the stretch. I think they played KU without Blake.

Capel mostly created the team that exists. The team chemistry was largely developed and honed over the summer by the players themselves. Lon Kruger is a fantastic coach, but these two teams are not mutually exclusive of one another. Whether Capel can coach is subjective, but let's just focus on LK and the team from now on. K?
